LL, thanks Very nice shots
KL, No lights, just by a window with a white transparent curtain with a reflector. Yes great model to work with. I think the model, camera model that is was a Nikon F1!
There is no F1, just an F, and anyway it is more like an FM:

Now, as for you both, I don't have anything more nice to say to you. I blame you two entirely for the fact that I ordered the 28 Summicron today. When I fling myself off a building after complete financial ruin, the last words to pass my lips will be a curse directed at you two!
Luka, when you get the 28 Cron please make a comparision between the Cron and the 25ZM. In my opinion your duck images shot with the 25ZM had the strongest 3D effect I've ever seen in a 2D image. I'm very interested to see whether the 28 Cron is comparable.
Joe, Malkovic, thanks, but that's nothing I should be congratulated on. Not buying it would have been to show that I could resist temptation, and that would have been something to be congratulated on.
LL: Fortunately for me I'm not feeling any longing for the 21 Lux. No, the dangers I'm open to are perhaps the 90 Cron AA and the 50/0.95 Noctilux, but it's not urgent
Malkovic, all my Leica M lenses except the 50 Summilux ASPH were bought in Sweden (I ordered the 50 Lux from Italy). All my Zeiss ZM lenses except one (35/2 Biogon) were ordered from the Zeiss online lens shop (i.e Germany). I generally prefer local purchases and I'm willing to pay a bit more for that.
Boris, my ZM 25 is at Zeiss for repairs (uneven focusing ring) but when I get it back I'll make sure to do some comparisons.
I'm guessing these are the two duck shots you were referring to:
Luka, Joe and Malkovic, thanks
Luka, congrats on the upcoming arrival of the 28 Cron Looking forward to seeing your shots with it Fortunately this is a lens that you should not have any focusing issues.
Carsten, you are right, as usual Yes it is a Nikon FM! Great camera BTW.
Boris, I have had a number of lenses in Solms, 90 Cron APO, 50 Lux Asph and now the 75 Cron Apo. I have also sent all my lenses to Melbourne, to be synced with my M9's and other lenses, now which are all within the standard master calibration for focusing. Putting in perspective, my 5DII with the 50L and 85L also had focusing issues, and near MFD, AF was not consistent.
So my take is with any fast and longer Leica lenses, test and evaluate and don't settle unless you are happy. It has taken almost 4 months to have all my gear fully synced, so when I go now, I just concentrate on shots and composition, knowing that the RF focusing will be right. The last portrait session, I think only one shot was not quite in focus, usable, but my fault of course.
Rather than post any more shots from the session, here is the link to some more of the shots Portrait Session
Yes, I always thought that the FM/FM2/etc. were very nice cameras, and since I own Nikon lenses, I have thought more than once of getting one. The main thing holding me back is that film in 135 size is not really my cuppa. I prefer medium format or larger for film.
Thanks Charles, Luka. Luka - can't wait to see what you do with the 28 Cron. Do you find the soft release button really works? I have never tried one...been curious about that. I don't know if it would do much since I already have a Thumbie in place

No pressure, eh?

Unfortunately not at all. I'm sure it's my (lack of) technique though.
Anyway, I drove out to Drottningholm (the residence of the royal family) to baptize the 28 Cron. It was sort of a mistake as things are just too neat and you end up with postcard style pictures regardless of what you do. Here's a load of pictures - I've kept the PP to a minimum just to let the lens do it's thing:
So what are my impressions of the 28 Cron? It's a great lens. The colors are amazing and it's really great at extracting the fine detail in a scene. The detail and the the outrageously strong vignetting reminds me of the 21 Distagon - although the 28 is very different in other respects.
I think 28mm is a weird focal length. It's almost, but not quite an UWA. So essentially the composition principles are similar although it provides a more moderate angle of view without the UWA drama. This was my first time using a 28mm lens, so I need to work with it more to explore what kind of compositions work well.
