You are never too old to experience new things. I came across my first self avowed Satanist on my outing yesterday. Notice the upside down cross on his neck chain. He said he was not an evil Satanist, but a good one. I didn't get exactly how that works. Seems like a an oxymoron to me. But he was a very pleasant guy to shoot. He was manning and Atheist booth which for all the World looked exactly the same as any evangelical recruiting booth exhibiting on the promenade that day. Why have a religion denying religion? Life is very interesting.
The Satanist was very ominous looking so I decided to use split lighting to do his portrait. Split lighting is often used in films to impart a sense of dram and dread, so I thought it appropriate.

If I'm remembering correctly, the Church of Satan doesn't actually believe in Satan, or any other deity. The name is more an act of rebellion against religion. I think its belief system is similar to existentialism, but with a bit more rebellious nature.
I had mentioned that I booked a sunrise photographer's trip to Ano Nuevo. For those unaware, this is a California state park that has tightly restricted access. Ano Nuevo is the largest elephant seal rookery and is an ecologically sensitive area. The typical tour is with medium to large groups, begins around 9:30, and offers rushed photographic opportunities.
My tour is specifically geared towards photographers, begins at 6:00 am, is not rushed, and allows for better access to the animals. Anyway, it is primarily a wildlife thing, and I took nearly 1000 pictures with my Nikon gear. I, however, did bring my M9 and did take few landscapes and wildlife photos with it. For the shot pictured, I used a 50mm f1.5 Nokton @ f/2 and only straightened the image in LR... Otherwise, this gives you an idea as to how close I was to these giant seals.

Yesterday, I attended a local camera meetup. There were about 25 photographers with all sorts of gear, formats, digital and film. While I mostly shot with a Fuji GW690III, I captured a few with the Leica D-Lux 8.
