Yes, a pretty crappy design. You can select from "Off", "Manual" and "Auto" and all are mutually exclusive. That's why you really have to code your lenses or you'll just forget resetting the lens settings when switching lens. My Zeiss 50 Sonnar is coded as a 50 Lux ASPH. So when I was doing the comparison shots that I posted the other day I manually configured it as a 50 Lux II in order to differentiate it in the EXIF from the real 50 Lux ASPH. And then of course I forgot to turn the manual configuration off..
Tx Ryan! Those are lovely shots - particular like your last shot.
For the rally, i used mostly 640 but the first b&w one was actually in ISO200 - with the 28 elmarit.
Cheers
Here's a couple more with the 28 elmarit-
[edit: opps forgot to crop out the bottom bits after perspective correction, will do so later tonight]
Boris, congratulations on the 50 Lux Excellent portrait!
KL, great shots!!! Love #1 and 6.
Ryan, more really nice shots! There is something special about the 50 Lux II.
Luka, thank you Great series of shots!!! My favourites are the second series, cabin. leaves and grass
KL, wow... great shots! #2 is a superb composition. Love it!
Luka - I really like all three from #3....especially the last one. So smooth
KL - great shots again! Really like the composition on #2
Steve - I have to agree...haven't seen much bokeh that I haven't liked with that lens but you found it there . Nice shot though, and I do agree, other than the nervous bokeh the shot is very nice
Thanks Charles, Ron, Ryan, KL, Joakim, Luka For those who asked, those pics I posted were with the 35Lux ASPH v1
Charles, love the second take of the beach shot with the 28Cron a few pages back. Stunning colors and pp!
Ryan, nice colors on those pipes with the 35Lux. Also like the B&W and color shots with the 50Lux II, all very nice! That older 50Lux has a lovely rendering and glow to it.
KL, more nice shots from Singapore! Love your color pp. The set with the runner and rallies are really excellent!
Joakim, nice B&W from the spring party. I like expression captured in #1
Boris, congrats on your 50Lux ASPH. Very nice portrait.
Luka, Two very nice sets. The composition and colors on #1 on the first and second set is really beautiful.
Steve, love the expression captured on the 50/0.95 shot. Have you considered reducing the contrast and structure on the background region? Might be able to tame the bokeh a bit?
Gregory, congrats on the M9. Finally huh? How's your first impression of it?
Ryan, my spare 50Lux ASPH in silver arrived this week Send me a PM if you are interested, else its going to ebay shortly. Comparing the black and silver side by side, the silver is better built, but I prefer the black one... the silver one weighs a ton next to the black one.

It could be that our short discussion on street photography earlier this week distracted me a little. I was traveling past few days and normally would have taken pics in the airports, etc .. but I somehow wasn't in the right mood and ended up with these.
All 50Lux ASPH
Crawfish season in Houston TX. $4 a pound. Too messy for me but it goes extremely well with Heineken
Maybe I didn't want to end up as someone's punching bag this week? Taken at ISO2500
The 50Lux ASPH is really smooth especially if you like to blur the background. Also, the separation falloff between in/out focal plane is really sharp, creating the modern Leica look. I like this lens for its speed over the 50Cron but when it comes to rendering for portraits, I still prefer the 50Cron, but that's me.

Opps, correction, I did take one or two quick snaps with the 28Cron while waiting to catch a connection out of Charlotte NC.
Ryan, very nice set! Great colours and lighting
NikkorAIS, congratulations on the new M9 Nice shots.
KL, excellent shots. Love #1 the composition and lines in this shot
Joe, very nice set of shots. The portrait is outstanding, and great capture in the airport with the 28 Cron
Julian - the 50 Lux has had 3 optical formulas. 50 Lux I was optics #1. 50 Lux II and PreASPH improved on the 50 Lux I with sharpness and coatings. 50 Lux ASPH is the current version which is what Charles, Joe, Luka, KL and others have been showing you. I have the 50 Lux II....which renders VERY differently than the ASPH.
Oops...I think I've shown those 28 Cron shots already...here are a few more
and one more just to show how beautiful out it has been lately.....
