I decided to try something a little different this afernoon. Instead of focusing on a single subject with either my 35mm or 50mm I went wide with my VM 21mm Color-Skopar. I wanted to try and find subjects that were interacting with other subjects in the enviornment. This turns out to be much harder than it sounds. Yes, focus is super easy, pretty much everything is in focus when you stop down just a bit to f/5.6 or higher. But catching some good interaction is a challenge.
This skate boarder was coming down the boardwalk really fast. His boom box held over his head blasting out at max volume as pulled manuevers in sync with the music. As dangeous as it looked, the crowd seemed to love it. I managed to capture this shot as he zoomed by.

The monopod arrived yesterday, and it's helping out immensely, particularly the RRS mono head's one-way swivel and the Gitzo monopod's pivoting rubber foot.
Need to switch to electronic shutter as I think I'm seeing shutter shock in about half the images at 600mm.

For a day that alternated betwwen rain, fog, overcast, and blue sky holes, the beach was very busy yesterday. Maybe it was because of Spring Break, or the big College Basketball Tournament that is in town this week. A lot of people were even out swimming with no wetsuits. I am guessing that they all live a long way from salt water, and wee going in no matter what. !
In any case, the shifting conditions made for some interesting light so I enjoyed that. Everything from a rain shower and fog, to a hole in the clouds is visible in this one frame.
