I have a lenses in various thread sizes, and I don't have all the filters in every size to really run proper tests. But it seems yellow has no effect on IQ, red has the most, and surprisingly orange tends to have a strange effect on only the 50APO.

I am only using color filters (yellow, red, and green) on lenses attached to my film M6 camera. I am using the filters all on Leica or Voigtlander lenses. I never saw a case of image degradation by the filters used. I bought my color filters used - either B+W, Tiffen, or Hoya filters. It is possible that the latest Leica lenses like the 50 APO cause some issues with filters since the lenses are now made for digital where normally no color filters are needed.
The only issue I have seen with glass filters was caused by a cheaper polarizer filter which clearly degraded image quality. In one other case a good quality UV filter caused an issue in severe sharpness reduction on the Canon 100-400 lens.

The latest version for M-E/M9 is 1.202 if you have the original sensor and there is a 1.204 for the new sensor but 1.204 is not backward compatible with the original sensor (something to do with color rendering).

It's a 50APO specific thing. But a few lenses don't play nice with coloured filters on digital. So it's also a digital thing. Ahhh glad I figured it out, the 50APO is behaving much better now with no filters (well, no coloured filters. The UV filters don't bother any lens I've owned save for one or two wides).
It's not the quality of the filters, I use B+W filters mainly. Heliopan and Leica as well.
Interesting about the 100-400. I had a really sharp copy a long time ago. But don't remember if I ever used a filter on it.

Does this mean you're more positive when it comes to using the 50 APO on the M-246? I'm considering downsizing from the Noctilux to the APO but performance on the M-246 is a key factor to consider.
