Very nice watch! I still have my Reverso bought over 20 years ago. Works perfect, never had to service it. Compared to the other "famous" Swiss watch that I have which I have probably spent as much on servicing as the price I paid for it.

Have you tried the Macro Adapter M? I'm thinking of getting one of those but cringing at how much it cost.

Purely at base ISO, the CCD on the M9 is great and I would prefer it over the CMOS M2xx.

Hey Joe - great to see you!!

I am thinking of picking up a 28cron to try out and wanted to get some feedback from you all. What are the general performance traits and characteristics of this lens (on the M240)? I am thinking color output, wide open performance, bokeh, etc. It is a lens I have always wanted to own but never pulled the trigger for some reason...

Great to see you too Gary

Are you looking at the new one or the older 28Cron? At the bargain prices the older one are going for right now, I would say give it a try, one of my favorite Leica lenses. Think it has some magic dust with its rendering. I'll let others fill in on the technical aspect.

Thanks Joe. I didn't know there was more than one 28cron version.... Will have to look into this further. Some of the images I have seen over the years with the 28cron (and especially the M9) look amazing.

Thanks Joe! No I haven't tried the macro adapter but I heard it works really well with the 90 macro elmar. If you're looking for an economical solution I would look up the novoflex close up adapters, I've seen them go for a good price secondhand recently. Would love to see a pic of your reverso btw

lenticular11 wroteretain the M9... having some doubts

Those of you who moved from M9 / M-E to M240 and its descendants, are you pleased with the switch,
purely from the perspective of base-low-range ISO IQ, not for any other reasons such as live-view and higher ISO performance??

Welcome back and nice shots!

My answer... M9... M240 is No! The magic was killed in an instant! M240 was like an iphone or Sony or any other digital thing to me, the M9 was sprinkled in fairy dust. I regretted hugely and went back.

Having said that, I've just sold my M9! Taking a break from digital and using the little time there is to indulge myself with film.

I only ever loved the M9 because it 'felt like' film with the saturated colours and beautiful yellows and blues etc. But it's obviously not and, once I'd betrayed my first M9, the bond was broken and I figured I may as well use film, rather than emulate it. (Definitely not opening the door to a film v digital argument, just speaking of my own personal enjoyment, the content that comes out of each isn't any better or worse for me, just dustier maybe!)

My output quantity has nosedived accordingly but, well, so what from my POV. These are my last M9 shots drifting out of the PP pipeline. I'm sure there'll be another M9 somewhere in the future. It's still the special one to me, the M240 leaves me cold.

Richard, thanks for your feedback re M9 and M240. That first shot is a cracker.

I spent the last 2 days wandering around inner north Melbourne where there is a plethora of fantastic street-art, mostly highly inventive murals. I carried my 1961 M2 and a few lenses, also a Fuji GA645. I can certainly identify with your love of film and I've just upgraded a budget P6x7 for the P67 II

There is something about the differences in sensors/lenses etc that create different looks. Some more desirable then others. People will have a preference. At the end of the day, good light and interesting subjects/compositions outweigh sensors/lenses.

Though, as someone who enjoys photography, I do also enjoy the gear differences however dramatic or subtle they are.

With that said, I'm very use to the way the M240 renders. I'm also very use to the way the S-006 renders. Though I suppose I could switch back to the M9. Just like how I switch to an S-007 or switch to Canons or Nikons or even in some cases Sony cameras.

I don't think I could go back to film, even if I wasn't shooting for a living. But I do have film cameras, and I do shoot the occasional roll for the heck of it. And I do sometimes get clients who actually request I shoot on film. So who knows!

Thanks Adam

I bought a Nokton 35 f1.2 (v1) yesterday, a sale on consignment at a dealer. The same customer was selling an S006, 30-70 and a prime lens. The body was going for a very cheap price as the seller wants to buy an SL.

I have to say I was incredibly impressed at the feel and build quality of the S006, although I have a Pentax 645D and many lenses invested.

If you have a P645D and many lenses. My advice would be to hold out until a P645 body comes along that you can't live without (since I foresee pentax making greater body leaps due to using Sony sensors then Leica will). Or if you feel you cannot live without S lenses and the S-colors. Then sell the pentax gear and invest in the S-system.

As someone who uses the S-006 over the S-007. I can tell you that upgrading to the newest body all the time is nowhere near as compelling with the S-006 in hand as it is with any other camera in hand. I'd sooner drop my M240-P for every ever Leica has cooking then to part with my S-006. (I have one on the buy and sell, but only because I have two S-006 bodies.)

The 35/1.2 is a pretty awesome lens! A lot of wedding photographers I know love using it when they can!

Is anyone else using color filters with their Monochrom?

Strangely enough I actually like the orange filter for the M246 w/almost all my M lenses. BUT the issue is, it doesn't play nice with the 50APO (and only the 50APO has such a dramatic negative effect). It severely diminishes the perceived sharpness of the lens, and also messes with the falloff and bokeh somehow. Making the lens look absolutely crappy in certain situations. I've since stopped using all coloured filters and now just enjoy the 50APO unfiltered on the M246.
A bit troublesome as the M246 doesn't have color channels, so editing is a pain. But I make due.
