Edward, did you keep your M240? How much better is the high ISO on SL compared to M240 or Q? I'm thinking of getting a Q instead of 28Lux.

Thanks Ron, I try to err on caution nowadays and not use the word "shoot" too much in public... "take photos" may be safer, don't want SS agents running at me after I say, "lets go shooting" and they didn't hear "pictures "

Haven't shot much past year, other than family pics. The good thing? Now almost all my lenses feel like they are new again ...

A few recent pics with various lenses. I have sold off quite a few unused lenses but kept some.

Hi Joe, I sold the M as the prices are depreciating a lot around here. I think they're similar at low ISO but the difference increases as the ISO goes up. I would say 1 stop difference at 1600 and probably 2 stops at 6400. ISO 25000 is just usable and 50000 is only for emergencies.

I prefer the first (with some more PP on the sky/clouds).

Nothing too special, but I couldn't get enough of the big giant clouds yesterday. Sometimes that still compels me to take photos (even though I try and just admire them now).

So thrilled that Spring is here, although we had an unwelcome week-long return of winter weather here. Even with some snow and nighttime temperatures that dropped to 25 degrees, most of our flowers were OK. A few shots taken with my Leica X Vario of the flowering trees near my house.

While I almost always tend to shoot the Q in monochrome, figured the fact its Spring and things are becoming green was reason enough to actually take a color photograph

p.1302 #17 · Leica M/X/T/S/Q/CL/SL Picture Thread

wow - I have 24 pages to catch up on, from 1324 forward!

I got back from the major family reunion trip on Easter Monday. I posted some of the P645D images during my travels and lots to Flickr however I hadn't taken the time to contribute to this thread while travelling.

The gear I ended up carrying comprised:

Medium format digital: P645D, A35 f3.5, A75 f2.8, P67 55 f4 SMC, P67 200 f4 SMC and a Sirui CF tripod and ball-head

M9, Summarit 50 f2.4, ZM25 f2.8 and CV21 f4

In hindsight the choice was good and I used every lens, although I made the error too many times of not switching back to Auto coding recognition, so on 2-3 days many of my Summarit 50 shots were still coded as 11809

The M9 was great for walking around in urban environments and the P645D was used mostly for landscapes. Lack of a high-ISO performer really hurt when we tried capturing a weak display of the Aurora Borealis one night up in NW Scotland (having missed a fabulous display elsewhere in the country the night before).

I've just returned this evening from 2 days in Melbourne. I put my M9 in for a sensor clean and this morning I learnt that it has sensor corrosion and will take 6-8 weeks for the Leica-funded sensor replacement. The RF also requires some calibration (excuse for somewhat OOF shots posted below ). Trading up to an M240 the cost would be A$4000 (official XR now at about US$0.75), so I've elected to retain the M9. That seemed an easy decision at the time but now I'm having some doubts. I love the M9 look but I could do with a decent CMOS cam for LM lenses and I could still sell my Sony A7R (no Kolari mod) for probably abut A$1200.

Those of you who moved from M9 / M-E to M240 and its descendants, are you pleased with the switch,
purely from the perspective of base-low-range ISO IQ, not for any other reasons such as live-view and higher ISO performance??

Thanks for your replies in advance.

Some Flickr shots shared from the trip...so many more to do. All M9 and Summarit 50 f2.4 apart from one using the ZM25 f2.8.

I have both an M-E and the new M 262 and I really like them both. The 262 is better in low light and a lot quieter. I do like the M-E a lot more than I thought I would. I bought it as a second color body and back up and i use it a lot more than I thought I would. Still love the original MM. It is my camera for my personal work and for any B&W advertising/annual report work I shoot.

You are welcome. I get good results with the M-E at 1600 ISO and with the M 262 at 3200 and I like the MM all the way up to 6400 and will shoot at 10,000 without hesitation.
