Gary, I liked the shot before you pointed out that detail...

I'm with you on this uhoh7 — and feel strongly that, if this is what happened, there is no reason for posting a picture of a man, whose face can be clearly identified, in the situation of this unfortunate accident. Simply wrong, ethically. To show people how they would not want to be seen is only justified if there is some purpose for doing so — not merely in a riff on "look at my street photography."

Mitch, ethics are tricky, but I hear you. After all reportage is full of people depicted as they would not want to be seen. I was not judging Gary but simply reacting to the thought. It may just be a coffee spill

Gary, tractors are gorgeous, and your street scenes with the distagon have a wonderful quality to them.
Allan, I want to see that 90 cron on the street, in color!

I have been thinking about the M(262), but I would need to push something else out of my cabinet, and I don't know what it would be - M(240) maybe? Or SL? No, definitely not the SL, but then again...

I'm a fan of the SL, but for M glass I think I'd prefer one of the M bodies, if I had to choose. If I had your quiver, I'd be more prone to add a M9 with the new sensor, because of the color variation, and magic it makes with the 50 Lux and 28 cron MM also tempting But M9 is so cheap you maybe don't nee to sell anything and it's a tad lighter than 262.

Nice M9 colors, Charlie! May its sensor never catch the chickenpox

Question: Reading the OP, it seems that this thread is only for photos with digital Leica cameras. I was searching but didn't find an alternative thread for photos taken with film based Leica cameras. I am asking because I got a very nice M6 camera - I can always add photos taken with it into the general film photo thread in this forum, but I was wondering if there is a designated Leica film photo thread somewhere, too. If so, maybe somebody could post a link?

Mitch - appreciate the comment and respect your opinion. The issue of ethics in street photography is one that will certainly be debatable until the end of time. It can be a tricky balance at times.... Personally speaking, I want to be able to capture and present images which accurately convey emotion and true life in a big city. It is documenting everyday city life. That is my purpose. I most certainly did not post it to exploit him - I have no hidden agenda at all. It was simply one of the many "quirky" things I find in my city. I like to capture this sort of stuff because it is real life. Often times though, the line between ethics and censorship can become blurred depending on opinions. Bruce Gilden once said "I have no ethics" even though he also said that he loves the people he photographs. I personally don't like his shooting style but the results are very interesting. There is no single definition of ethics as it depends on your intent and also personal values. I have my own personal guidelines for being ethical/moral but I also respect that others will have a different opinion. I can say without doubt that most (perhaps all?) frequent posters on this particular forum are the type of individuals who act in a responsible manner with no ill intent...

Agree with Gary. Photography is about documenting life around us. It's not always glamorous or attractive, but more often it is ugly or tragic. Being selective in what we want to show is not ethical in my opinion, but rather hypocritical and insincere.

Yeah I don't see why you couldn't post shots from a film M in here. There's plenty of us that do It's still an M after all

A couple of environmental portraits with the new 262 and Lux FLE wide open. Still haven't seen the crappy bokeh form this lens some say it has. Is it as good as a Canon 200 2L or even the 90 cron? No way but again it is better than most 35mm lenses I have shot with.

This is the best thread on FM, IMO.

I havent been around much, but have still be shooting.

Below are some recents...and not so recents. The first two from the pool were resurrected from the dead...I never 'selected' them when I originally culled them and just discovered them over the weekend when I went back to print an image! Glad I did

Thanks Chuck and I really like it. I also picked up a VERY gently used M-E with a one year Leica warranty. All the Canon stuff has been SOLD. So I am all Leica M now.

Still rock'n the MM for all the personal work.

Really good stuff Chuck.
Don't stay away so long and I agree about this thread. This is probably my favorite photography thread anywhere.

Gary - thanks for the response. We should agree to disagree, as this gentle thread is probably not the place to discuss this issue, which has been discussed in a lot of not particularly interesting threads all over the web.

Edward's point about selectivity being hypocritical can be true about a reportage or documentary or a photo essay, but this is a hardware-oriented forum in which people posts often interesting pictures taken with Leica cameras or lenses. I'm not for censorship, or self-censorship. Your picture, and even your comment, are fine in a photo essay or documentary; but the way presented here look merely gratuitous — and this is taking into account your valid point about intent, or shall I say, intent and purpose.

Thanks Edward. Been getting out a fair bit lately which is unusual for me this time of year. You will see a mix of street and old barns/homesteads from me in the coming weeks...
