Allen, beautiful work as usual, but I really like the smoking lady with the graffiti!

Gary, great shot of your son with the starry sky!

Robert, love that shot of Piper and the running shoes

Chas, excellent job with the 28 cron. Sorry to hear about your camera, but the sensor mapping takes only a few minutes and it's done at the Leica center in Singapore, so it shouldn't take long.

My dream... if my son ever decided to like photography, I would be in heaven! Luck you, Gary! And I'm soooo glad to see the little GR still being enjoyed! When he tires of it, maybe I'll buy it back. We could do like a time-share thing!

Okay, I admit it...the MM has spoiled me. I still shoot some with the M, but I am finding that most of the time I reach for the MM before heading out the door. It wasn't a conscious decision to immerse myself in a world of black and white, but I am finding that even when I shoot in color with the M, and like the results, I like them better in many instances when converted to black and white.

Is this a temporary phase I am going through, or is it something more permanent? When, in a few years, I am scrolling through my Lightroom catalog, will I find a history of color images, followed by a few months of black and white photography sprinkled with a little color here and there, then back to predominately color? Or will this transition appear as if I had used the gradient tool on my photography preferences? Only time will tell.

Here is an example of a shot I took a couple of months ago in color and converted. It was taken at an arts and crafts show inside the booth of my friend, Nicole, a clothing designer and dress maker. Her daughter stopped by for a few minutes, sat down in a chair in front of a mirror, and with mom's permission I took this candid shot. I liked it in color, converted it to B&W, and found that in black and white it portrays an entirely different look and feel. Without the distraction of color, more attention is focused on the young girl and her mood, as it should be.

There are many outstanding photographers, displaying amazing images in color (as well as black and white) in this forum. Are any of you finding a similar affinity to the world of monochrome that I am experiencing?

I share your general feeling relms, I too am loving the MM (and as always still converting a lot of M9 stuff to monochrome.)

I'm in a gestalt-induced trance half the day, seeing shapes and lines everywhere! Mmmm, negative space

More generally on B&W, I find I wax and wane, I often try looking at an M9 shot in B&W to see if it still works as an image but end up keeping colour if I like the way the light looks. B&W is all about shapes and lines and so on for me, with the high ISO and portrait capabilities a great bonus too.

Like your photo above, there's a pleasing, relatively symmetrical diagonal zig-zag of negative space through the middle of the image. (Sorry, I'm no good at articulating this kind of thing) but it's something that's far more apparent/accessible in B&W?

Just coincidence that my next couple of shots are B&W too (and from an APO lens too!)

Coogee, spooky shots. They remind me of 9/11. And I rarely think of it. Great contrast between the BW and color, excellent PP on both.
Lovely shot reims. Who says the asph has rough bokeh? Looks great in your shot
Allen, nice set Love the girl in the doorway

Gary, what is that lurking silver thing in the deep black frame? I like it.
Nice old tractor, Joakim.

We have alot of this goin on:

Big Lake Slopes by unoh7, 28/2

Most of our large old whitebarks are now tombstones after the great dying which began around 1998. But a few monsters linger:

Whitebark by unoh7, 28/2

Still Alive by unoh7, 28/2

Elk Below! Still mostly native grasses up here. Fireprone cheat grass, non-native, covers much of the lowland now

High Elk Meadow by unoh7, 50cron

Dynamic range; M9:

Quiet Sunset by unoh7, ZM 18

A west on fire does make nice sunsets. Finally today, most of the smoke blew out from big fires in Oregon, after 2 weeks of heavy soot.

I always had mono days though was never a monochrome person, but lately I've been experimenting with a bit more of it. Makes me lust for an M mono, doesn't help that I just watched Salt of the Earth about Sebastiao Salgado. The number of monochrom users posting in this thread have definitely have had some say in the change of taste...could say I'm converted. Coogee, I prefer the mono set. Likewise, I like the look of Joakims tractor set, though I think it also has something to do with the lens and rendering.

Charlie, the I love the last picture.

Leica hasn't given me a definitive date for when I can expect to receive my camera back, which is a bit annoying since it's something that can be done on the spot. They did say they might want to do more testing given it may not be the regular hot pixel stuff, but labeled the receipt as remapping anyway.

More of the same from me, last set from the same day.

Lost in translation (Singapore) by aFrIcanSH

The trishaw man wanted to take them to where they wanted to go. He started playing music on his stereo built into the trishaw, and got ready. The tourists on the other hand, speaking in some watered down english, merely wanted to ask for directions from someone they felt more capable of giving them. No meeting of the minds here, just lost in translation.

Was reminded of these shots I took with the 80lux on the M when someone asked about the 75lux. Man I miss this lens. Trying to save up for a 50 Noct f1 to give me some of that 75/80lux look while having f1. Don't have my camera back yet. Apparently they mapped out the prominent pixels which were defective but are still trying to figure out the shadow/underexposure noise at iso1000ish. I've never missed a camera as much as this one..even my girlfriend feels unloved in comparison.

Anyhow, cross posted from the R lens thread
