I think 28 cron or even elmarit would be great for environmental portraits. If you already have a 24/1.4 it would be more of a luxury option though. To answer your question a 28 and 35 is completely different especially in close to medium distances. You're going to have a lot more dof with the 28. It also makes it easier to incorporate the environment when you're shooting in enclosed spaces like your studio. Nice tele btw
EDIT: I know this won't help but if you want a really good environmental portrait lens you might want to consider the 21 distagon.

Freiburg is built on a hill . Therefore, it has many places where you are at eye level with the roofs.
Since my A7.mod is shooting the 50 cron so well, I'm carrying two bodies and don't swap lenses as much at the moment. The 28 is earning it's keep on the M9
I'm waiting on the supply delay with my a7r to get the mod done.
I tried using the a7r at the weekend (with Minolta glass) after a few weeks getting into the m9, wow it felt weird/clunky! RF focussing is spoiling me fast.
Charlie, great colors (or colours if you prefer ). Carrying two cameras without swapping lenses is a nice treat. I think I'll try that with my Ricoh GR and a fifty on my M9.
