Ok, since you can't see me, I'm green with envy for both the camera and the wife I'm looking forward to seeing some images with your new 'baby'!

We're not all bad, guys. Wives like to see their husbands happy... And perhaps she understands the Leica lure on a deeper level. Or perhaps she plans some amazing online late night shopping. Either way, congrats!!!

Katie, I agree on that and I hope she is not planning to that...

With a 35/50 combo. I'd suggest going as wide as you can while still enjoying the lenses rendering and IQ.

21SEM fits the bill for me

Yeah I've heard many many good things about that lens, but for the time being, Leica lenses are simply out of my budget. I'm not unhappy with the 25mm at all, but I'm trying to get my equipment settled before this summer.

Do you really have to ask your spouses for permission to buy a camera?

Edward, not really. But once you get her to say "buy it if you like it"... it just feels like I care for her opinion on something that is quite an expensive toy which is more for me alone for the most part...

I was just teasing My wife actually likes Leica and when I switched to Sony when my M9 was in service, she told me the A7 doesn't look nice on me and asked me to buy a Leica M Obviously she considers my M as a fashion accessory, just like her (much more expensive) branded handbags collection

I just got off the phone with my spouse who works with quite well off people. After showing my R images to people at the conference, several fessed up to owning one, and one woman came up to say she just bought her husband $45K worth of Leica that included the med. format camera and a couple lenses, for a novice photographer. It's all so darn relative!

And I'm with jfreak, I am more comfortable buying with permission/discussion so I can at least 'make my case' for why I want/need something. It's better in the long run

Fair enough, my theory still holds true, with zeiss. 35/50 zeiss and 21 2.8zm reasonably priced lenses.

YES. Even though she tells me she doesn't care what I buy. I ALWAYS ask.
Besides I hem and haw so much, it's good to get her advice.

You know, on that note. My wife listens to me for HOURS talking about this gear and that. And sometimes her eyes glaze over, but to her credit she's listened enough that she is pretty knowledgeable for someone who doesn't shoot very often. She sometimes helps me gain clarity by referencing things I've said, and photos I've shot of her and other people.

For instance, she doesn't think me buying an S-006 system is a good idea after the time I spent using (and hating) it for work shoots. But she also doesn't think I should bother keeping all my film cameras, because at this point I've demonstrated that I can closely match film with relatively no fuss (we spent hours together creating actions one day that we're happy with). And since my film cameras focus slower then the S-006. Why not just sell the film cameras (mainly my spare Contax645 systems) and buy the S-006. Which BTW is what I'm doing. She helped me reason it out logically. And for that, I think it's worth involving her.

And also Edward, like your wife.. Mine didn't like the look of the A7, and much preferred I wore my M240 when we went out to events

Can I just get an opinion then. In my position, would you trade out the ZM 25mm for the ZM 21mm?

Your wife must be very knowledgeable in photography especially that she runs a printing business. Mine has no idea about the technical part, even though she works in advertising. She loves the M look though and anything old looking (probably why she chose me ) .

I chose the 25 for the superlative performance, and to emulate my set up on DSLR. However I found that with rangefinders I prefer something wider to be worth the trouble using an external finder or EVF. So I'm basically in your position but I think I will keep the 25 for now.

Yeah I have the EVF for my M240, but since I no longer have a DSLR kit (I do have a m4/3 kit though mostly for video) I just want to have a kit that suits my needs perfectly.

Amazingly deciding between 21 and 25 is rather challenging. I shot with a 20mm for a few years on my Canons and got used to the perspective, but I shot with a 16-35mm quite often. Anyways, I like the perspective of each and I can use them well, I'm just wondering if 25 is wide enough for the look I want.

I have the 21/25 Voigtländer finder and I think the difference in aov isn't dramatic, though noticeable. This said, I do prefer the 21 perspective but the rendering of the 25 is too special to let it go.

I find 21mm goes really goes well with 35mm, however for me performance of the 21mm / 24mm would also factor in the decision.
