What is the problem with this lens for DX bodies? I read that it might not meter with some models... is this the case with the D90?
If this lens is a pain to use on the D90, then i won't bother...

There are certainly some that like to use MF lenses on DX bodies....I am not one. I have MF lenses that are chipped and some that are not. I don't really find the lack of metering as a huge problem b/c I can usually guess pretty close to what I want. If it is wrong, adjust and take another picture. Big deal.
My problems are:
1) eyesight is not the greatest and looking into the viewfinder is difficult to focus....even the green dot confirmation on the D90 is hard to find for me and does not seem very accurate
2) when using lenses with wide apertures (such as 1.4) it is difficult to accurately focus on the FX viewfinder let alone the tiny DX VF
3) viewfinder is tiny, making it feel like I have to compose the shot twice as long as on FX.
4) I am used to shooting 50/50 'A' and 'M' mode....I no longer have one of my two comfort settings available for non-chipped lenses on the D90

it will make specific reference to it. CametaCamera and Buy.com have it for I think $319. I have seen some ebay 'Buy It Now' auctions for $299. Same optics, so it is tricky to know the difference if it doesn't say "Chipped"

got the lens today! the chipped version works very well with my D90 (able to use A mode)! Build feels pretty good & solid, and the focus ring is very smooth! the lens cap and hood is cheap plastic, but that was expected... overall, i'm happy with it! (kind of fun "mastering" the manual focus)
About to click the buyitnow button on this baby, y'all have me convinced!
PS So it's paid for. I read everywhere that the cap and hood are cheap, has anyone found good replacements for either? I assume a generic punch cap off eBay will do the trick for the cap. Will the LF-1 work for the rear cap, assuming the rear cap is crap like the rest. And any idea for the hood?
I bought a Nikon lens cap (LC-72) on ebay for about $9; but a generic center-pinch cap would do... i'm not sure if i'll replace the hood... it serves it's purpose.. same with the rear cap; it does the job!
Just a cheap ebay one. A bit large for the lens but fits securely and seems to work well. For 15 bucks I figured why not. It's nice because now I can just twist the hood and it smoothly turns the polarizer. Also the lens cap fits inside the hood.
I went ahead and ordered this lens from cameta, and it should arrive later this week.
I had been putting it off because I really don't want to expand my lens collection any more than I have to, and I've been getting great portraits with my 105mm micro Nikkor... plus I've been very broke.
However, that all changed about a month ago when I shot a wedding in Portland. For about 90% of the wedding I shot through a borrowed Nikkor 85 1.4 AIS and was just blown away with the light gathering abilities and the look of the images I got from it. Manual focus was such a blissfully rewarding experience that I consigned myself to shoot one more wedding with the 105 micro and then plunge for this Rokinon, which is what I did. I'll post back when it arrives.
this thread seems to be in the know on this lens ! does anyone know how to tell the older vs. the newer lens production and the differenced between the two? im guessing its just metering report to the body
