I recently purchased the Sony A7, and I have to say that using Leica R lenses are a blast!
So much enjoyable than using Leica R lenses with 5D II IMO.

This is cross posted in the Sony A7/A7r/A7s thread and my first posted photo from my recent trip to Shenandoah National Park; image taken on June 6, 2015 of a Doe White Tail Deer and her recently born Fawn at the Byrd Visitor Center, Big Meadows, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Image cropped and taken with my tripod mounted Leica R 280mm f4 Apo Telyt lens with my Leica R 1.4X Apo Extender and my Sony A7r camera; ISO 400, lens set to effective aperture of f8 at 1/800 second. Image processed in LR6. Other images to come as I wade through the hundreds of new images and selectively process the images. This and other images will be cross posted in the Sony A7/A7r/A7s thread and there will be a separate thread made for this trip to Shenandoah National Park.

21-35. Speed Booster, NEX-7.

Using Lightroom again. While I prefer Capture One for fine tuning, Lightroom's camera calibration makes it much easier to get colors I like out of the box.

Cheers,
Jon

Can Leica M240 photos shot using a Leica R lens go in the M/X/T/S/Q thread too?

Got an ex-demo M240 unit last week, shot with the 80lux before I acquired a 50lux-M yesterday. Also, just to ask, when using the R to M Adaptor I shot wide open but the exif recorded some photos as f2.8/f2 etc...is that odd?

Hey guys! Some excellent work in this thread, really impressive.. almost nervous to post my little shots!

This is some macro stuff with the 35-70 F4 ROM which just came in yesterday. Also got the 50 lux and a 28 v1 to play around with. Going to compare the 28 v1 and 50 lux against their C/Y MMJ counterparts and see which I prefer to keep and which I want to sell off.

I love that first one! Something about the framing and the windows.. very neat look to it.

Edit - And a general question for anyone who has experience with the Zeiss C/Y lenses.. It feels like the R lenses have a tighter focus ring in general (maybe 25-30%harder to turn), and a far longer throw than the C/Y Zeiss lenses.. Is that normal? Just curious if that's usually the case, or if perhaps the copies I picked up of the R lenses all just happened to be somewhat stiff.

Before I migrated to Leica R, I owned over 15 Contax Zeiss lenses over time. From my experience I'd say this:

Leica R lenses are generally heavier (given the same max aperture and focal lengths) and mechanically more robust. As a result I'd say Leica R lenses tend to feel more solid and even when focusing, but I wouldn't say they have tighter focus rings. Tightness really has to more to do with how feel a lens has been maintained over the years, how old the lubricant inside is.

Focus throw longer? Not really. The Contax 85/1.4 for example has a considerably longer (too long, IMO) throw than the R80/1.4, but the Contax 50's (1.7 and 1.4) both have shorter throws than Leica R 50's (both v1 and E60). R35/1.4 feels about the same as the Contax 35/1.4 did, but the Contax focuses more closely and so is probably a bit longer.

Thanks! I only have the 28's (distagon 2.8 / elmarit v1) and 50's (summilux 3 cam / planar 1.4) to compare between the two brands, but the throw on the summilux is definitely longer than the planar by a decent margin.

I guess 'tight' focus ring was a bad description.. both sets rotate smoothly and consistently, I think the Leica's just require about 20-30% more force/torque to move the ring the same amount. Perhaps they'll ease up a bit with consistent usage.

Thanks for the input!

If my experience with Zeiss ZF lenses are to go by as compared to Leica lenses, here specifically the R glass, the leica focus rings (disregarding age, sample differences) generally requires more effort to turn, a bit more inertia in some sense.

A couple more from the 80lux

Wow, great stuff! I love the look that lens has. If I get the Batis 85 in and find I'm not satisfied with it, I think I know what I'll be trying next!
