Thinking of your shots, you do go for high contrast, bright colour shots, so I suppose it fits right in for you. I would buy one for completeness, but I guess the prize will be very high.
For me it's worth every cent, all 65,000 of them. I should have bought the filter when I bought the lens (I've had it about 15 years) but held off for many years, they are just so damn expensive for what they are. But for me, for car photography, it's a must-have filter. You wouldn't need it for people.
By the way, there are 2 similar drop in CP filters and they are not interchangeable so make sure you buy the correct one if you decide to get one. You need the 13340 for the 180/2, see below.
Sorry to mislead you, I have uploaded the wrong pic as the correct 13340 has an open loop.
I will give you the heads up when I locate my 13340. But in the mean time, I have spotted a 13340 for sale at a rather low price. Caveat Emptor.
I think all of them do that trick, tho I would probably avoid "hard" ones. That white stuff is just dust and oxidized layer of rubber (aged). There is some silicon stuff which can sorta "conserve" rubber.
Something like that tho I would be careful and take a good look what exactly is inside that can.
I was trying to find this cause rubber parts on my old Minolta are quite oxidized. Tho interesting is, that I have one older (non-working due failed IS) and that has rubber in perfect shape. Cant figure how its possible, except maybe some rubber has simply much higher quality than other.

Hmm, car shots with the 180/2... I am not sure there is enough space in Germany for that, maybe I would need to live in Australia
I am sorta considering it. I now have two links to filters for about 200 Euro or so, but am wondering if it is worth it. Btw, what is that messy edge on the photo of your filter? I see that also on one of the links, and it looks horrendous...
I meant that one of the curved edges of the filter looks ragged. I am wondering if it is just some soft material along the edge there? Anyway, I ended up making a rash decisions and buying one here in Germany which cyra sent a link to. There is another interesting option in the States, but the import duties would make it more expensive. Thanks to everyone who sent links and information, this is really a great forum with great people!

I think it's the edge of a felt lining glued on to the inner surface that pads contact with the lens (my clear filter for the 280/4 has this, but it doesn't stick out a bit to form a "messy edge").
