Well, thanks to the advice on this thread I just ordered a 24mm 1.4 and it will be here Wednesday. Found a killer deal off B&H's used department (courtesy of FM member: Ausimo).

Super excited! thanks to the advice on this thread
I decided to do the same thing after looking thru this thread I find this lense to be very close to the images the 35L produces and even better

You can see from the MTF's for both 24/1.4G and 35/1.4G that the 24 is sharper in the center wide-open and the 35 is optimized to be more consistent across the frame.Unless you need AF, I would go with the new Zeiss ZF.2 35/1.4.
I've owned both for a few days now and while I haven't done an apples-to-apples comparison I also lean towards the 35/1.4G not being as sharp wide open as the 24/1.4G. That said, it's still sharp wide open, just not as much as the 24 which is an exceptional lens.
The 35 1.4 is also a cheaper lens ($1799 vs the 24 1.4G's original $2199 price at release) and has no ED glass in it so you got to keep this in mind.
Check out the 35mm 1.4G thread I posted a few pics.
Meanwhile, I'll try to get a few comparison images of the two.

Wayne, love that second shot! Great colors....and slightly on the sharp side
Thanks Ryan!
Yeah, I was using the sharpen-for-web flow I copied from Luka but sometimes it is too strong.
I am not sure if I also did a HighPass filter/midtone contrast enhancement layer on this too.
I may just add a mask to mask out his whiskers which are the part that I think becomes too sharp and distracting.
What do you think?

Thanks, the comparison shots will be very interesting.
With the recent/near future arrivals of the 35G, ZF.2 35/1.4, and Samyang 35/1.4 there are a lot of choices now for a fast 35.
Well, I tried to put together a few comparison images together but it's pretty damn hard. Because of the difference in focal length between the two lenses, I had to try to adjust the camera-to-subject distance so that the subject would be the same magnification factor. It turns out this is really damn hard to do and I don't want to spend my entire Sunday trying to get it right haha.
So as a consolation prize here's a pic of the two lenses together:

So would you keep the 24 or the 35? Assuming you could only keep one?
That's a tough one. I think it depends what focal length one prefers to use. My favorite is 85mm. The 35 is a more versatile lens but the 24 image quality is nice. Really, I can't choose now, I've only had it a week...

Quite the conundrum....I have 24 covered with the 24G and the 14-24 but it's 2.8, big and conspicuous. The 24 prime is just so sublime......
