Great Shot! What also captured my attention is that the plant they are um, on, is called Bracken Fern - or fiddlehead as it is more commonly called. I've often picked them with my family and boil them (maybe 3 minutes) for consumption with butter and salt. I think they will never taste the same again...

Again - Great Shot!

Truly enjoyable thread! I had the opportunity to shoot elk in RMNP with my brother, and among all the bull elk in rut - this cow/calf shot is one of my favorites.

Are you sure that it is a bracken fern?

Ferns are an absolutely amazing, old, group of plants with a diversity that has on more than one occasion blown my mind.

Hi Josh,

Not positive, but it looks exactly like the fern I've picked and cooked on many occasions - red hair and all. What I picked was primarily in Northern Wisconsin. Love the stuff - kind of has an asparagus taste. As you say though, there are so many - this could well be a different fern.

I have quite a few decent BIF lately with my 7D but I decided to go with this one. My first decent woodpecker capture and I just love the look. I call this capture "Determined". It was in March and this was the first time I felt comfortable and confident with birding. You know that feeling when you make a leap in something you are working.

Taken with 5D, 300L F4 IS and Canon 1.4 II

Great photos everyone! Here is my contribution.

I took this photo in Sepilok Orangutan Rehab Center in Sandakan Malaysia. For me the sad expression on the Orangutan's face combined with the humans surrounding him summarizes the issues they face as a species.

Leopard Cub:
Not my "best" but it's my favorite of 2009 considering the challenge I had to undertake in shooting this little guy.

My favorite time of year on FM. There are so many WOW factor photos on here, it is such a joy to browse the pages and see shot after shot of very high quality images. It should be made into a book.

This was a fun year for animal shots for me. Half the fun is getting out to go look for images. As most folks have already mentioned its hard to pick one. This shot I have submitted is not technically that nice but sitting for hours on end this summer getting these shots bring back good memories for me.

Amazing shot ^^

How do you guys go out and shoot? Do you go out to the woods and walk around with a 500mm and a tripod, or sit and wait patiently?

Well, this shot certainly had some "wow" factor for me, as well as a little "whale" factor.

Great Shot!
