Anil, your shot without the TC is so incredibly sharp and detailed. I am really anxious to see what you can get with the TC. I've decided to get the 300/2.8L instead of the 500, so I am anxious to see know how good it is with the 2x. Please post some images soon!

Yeah .. even handheld, that image is sharp. Imagine if I had not been dumb enough to not use a tripod. With the 2x TC, you might be really disappointed. I'll post some samples soon though. My long lens technique is still raw and that might be one reason.

With a 2x TC you HAVE to use a much higher shutter speed and/or have very good technique - or use a tripod or monopod at least. It is well documented that this lens does better with TCs than any other super-tele - very good with the 1.4x TC and "good" with the 2x TC or 2 stacked 1.4x TCs.

WOW.. Don't think there is much else to say. How much processing was done to this shot?

Yes indeed, overall noticeably better than the 40D in every area IMO. Level of detail is amazing when you nail the focus. I like the new metering too.

Whayne, what an absolutely beautiful series of photos! As spectacular as all of the animal shots are, the 3rd from the last (landscape) is my favorite. Outstanding!

I am so frickin' in LOVE with my 7D, and I've barely had much opportunity to use it. What an unbelievable upgrade from my 30D!

1. From a recent portrait session:

2. The unexpected result of a moon shot:
http://cdpayetphotography.smugmug.com/photos/765524761_zdd5d-L.jpg

3. It makes shooting my daughter's cheer competitions MUCH easier. This was handheld, ISO 2500, 70-200 2.8L (non-IS), 1/400s @ f/2.8. Trying this with my 30D would have been useless.

Sorry last batch. Every single shot has been with the 100-400L, many from a boat.

Whayne I'm just stunned at the clarity/vibrance/'presence'/'freshness' of this photo.
