I think a lot of people have been sitting on their wallet waiting for this. I and a buddy have, at least. If these specs are correct we are buying... not waiting on reviews for validation. Early Adopters baby!
yeah it's all fun and joy now but you won't be saying "Early Adopters baby!" when it puts out your eye and steals your buddies GF....

If it just was not 18MP on a small APS-C sensor. D'Oh. APS-H? maybe.
Can you say Defraction starting around f/5.6 or f/6.3 or so?
So here is the thing at f/6.3 and above it does no worse than a 10MP APS-C sensor for diffraction, you merely don't get the full extra 8MP gain and below that you do, so why is that, itself something worrisome??
So how do the 5DMKII people feel about the possible specs of this camera? Its as if this is the iPhone all over again (in regards to early adopters feeling gypped). Its not exactly the same scenario but the added capabilities to the VF and AF sound pretty awesome and would have been sweet in the 5DMKII.

Oh that will come, but you'll spending more of your hard earned cash. Still for what it's mainly used the the 5D and 5D II are awesome cameras. The 5D's lack of pro AF never really bothered me too much. I think I'm still getting a 5D II, although those cheap 1Ds III's look tempting.

I think that the features are excellent (assuming that the rumor is correct, and I do). The AF system is the one that ought to have appeared in the 5D2 but didn't.
If Canon has been able to advance sensor/microlens technology significantly, it will provide excellent image quality even at high ISO settings. If that happens, it will sit happily next to my 5D2.

I have a 5D mkII and I'm pretty excited about the new camera. I don't care a flip about video and have always liked my crop cameras. If I read it right the 8FPS with better AF and good low light ability is an upgrade from my 40D although the 40D has a very good AF IMO.
It's just a matter of the next camera in line and since this is a crop camera upgrade it does not affect my feelings towards the 5D mkII and Canon.
Apples and oranges.
why woulld the 5dmk2 people even care about a crop camera...?
the more and more I see the specks of this alleged 7d the more I want one
why not if its a crop camera that floats your boat why not have a near pro speck as you can...? but when you say 1.6 crop its like the thing has the plague or something
...
I've got a 5D II and have no qualms about the specs of the 7D. If anything, I'm excited at the prospects of adding it to my wedding kit. Talk about making your lineup more versatile without any substantial sacrifices. At least, substantial to my own needs.
I own 40Ds and a 5D2, and yeah, I'm angry that Canon didn't put this autofocus arrangement into the $2700 camera where it belongs. It'd take a minor miracle for the 7D to have better high-iso capability than the 5D2, which is what I need the 5D2 for. The difference is, the 7D will be able to focus in low light (with all the AF points, not just the center) while the 5D2 is a bad joke in that regard.
There was no excuse for this omission. If Canon can put 19-point cross-sensor AF in a $1700 body, they sure as heck could have put something a whole lot better than the lame 9-point, one cross-type AF in the $2700 body a very short time ago.
I added a 5D II to my bag and have enjoyed having both. I am getting set to up upgrade my crop, 30D. I was expecting a 60D, so this is a pleasant surprise. Yes, if this autofocus is what they are making it out to be, I wish the 5D had it, but then it will sooner or later. Today, I'm enjoying it and will for some time to come.

Indeed - I shoot events on occasion, along with just about everything else. If the IQ pans out on the 7D, I'll get one and sell off my old 5D. The 5D2/7D combination could be a winner.
