I tend to think so too.
But I was thinking about this today - if Canon feels that rumored Sony A850 might be a threat to the 5DII, the 7D might as well be a FF model. Basically a 5DII but with smaller number of megapixels.
Absolutely that is what they are thinking. And mind you, the a850 is 24 mpx.
I'm hoping the 7D is the old 5D (12ish Mpxls) but with even better noise/ISO control with Digic IV, a dust shaker on the sensor, AF microadjust and the new screen from the 50D/5DmkII.
That'll do me... oh yeah and sell it for a price which will drop to £900 after about a year so I can buy one.

Ha! The OLD 5D is still selling at £850 used, no way on earth is Canon not going to screw over the Brits by doing yet another 1:1 $ to £ conversion.
theres simply no way canon will leave out HD video.
if this camera is for real, will canon make it available to the buying public unlike their rather dumb and commercially suicidal ' limited supply' strategy for the 5dmkii?

I don't think that was a 'strategy' more of a massive underestimation of how many people will fork out the money for a half-assed job

half assed upgrade..for sure...criminal that they put a 5 year old AF system into their 5dmkII.
as for underestimating demand..i disagree. people were foaming at the mouth for the 5dmkII over a year before it was announced, and also bear in mind it was released an extra year after Canon's traditional upgrade cycle.
nope, they royally and utterly screwed up their supply strategy for the 5dmkII...and can't put it right now, either.
That's a very good point, certainly the forums were buzzing with speculation and anticipation....but we were also anticipating a digital EOS-3, what with Nikon being able to offer it and all....maybe that played a part? Always hard to guess isn't it.
I am still not convinced the 7D would be 12Megapixels, full frame and with a feature set (AF, fps, etc) similar to the 5Dmk2.
Nikon already has the D700, probably a D700s in the pipeline (more pixels, video), and Sony will have a high pixel count full frame option soon at a low price point.
Only option I see for Canon with this 7D spec is to price it much, much lower than the competition. Maybe that is their thinking.
Well, If any of this is true I think Canon has already dropped the ball.
1. 12 MP's is ok, close enough to 15 MP's like the 50D, so thats a wash in my eyes.
2. 3.9 FPS....Thumbs downs!
3. Higher ISO's, better be close to the 5D mkII
4. Full frame high ISO capability for a few hundred more than the new Nikon D300s...great job
5. It better have an updated focus system or the message boards are going to melt down.
....I bet we see no real change in auto focus system until the 5D mkII is updated.

2900 for kit with 28-135 IS. Maybe a new lens with the newer IS technology.
I don't think that it would be a new IS technology since it only adds 200 dollars to the price. but on the other hand why would they put the old 28-135 wiith 2 stop IS on a brand new camera. something seems off

same reason why they put a 5 year old AF technology in the 5dmkII...either canon are being cheap or , more likely, they simply don't have the cutting edge technology.
