+1.
As the name implies, it's a 'lesser' camera than the 5DII.
Surely not a 5D with 1 AF point and 1 fps - because that's what a stripped down 5D would be
So, the viral campaign is starting.
The photo seems real and gives you a nice hint about what the 7D is going to be.
I think it's real as well. Remember when the 85L II was leaked, the leak image was like a cell phone shot someone had taken of a used lens? This might be sorta the same as that.
Since this is a 7D and not a 3D, could someone who's familiar with the film bodies explain the differences between the EOS 7 and the EOS 3?

In fact, you'll never have to carry a strobe again. When the button is pressed the user invokes the lighting power of Zeus's E-TTL II thunderbolts.
Presumably, you'll be able to apply Zeus Exposure Compensation (ZEC) since even Zeus will underexpose by 2/3 of a stop in E-TTL mode.

Not sure about the specifics....but they are both full frame
Ariel, how old are you (or better yet, when did you start shooting SLR's?)? If you can't remember, the Elan a 20d when talking fps, build, size, etc. The 3 is more like a 1d without the grip. its sized like a 5d, but faster and more capable.

The 3 also has 45 pt AF........similar to the 1 series. OOOPPSS that what you said!! my bad.

Why does it have to be 45 point? I'd be perfectly happy with 9 point AF that has pro accuracy.
Just the layout of the points is a bigger issue I suppose. The way the 9 points are clustered in the middle of the 5D in that diamond shape is highly inconvenient.
It's from the same source that predicted the 7D, G11, S90, SX20, and SX120 last week. It turns out that the leak was spot-on on every single P&S announcement. So it's a safe bet that the EOS 7D rumor will prove to be real as well.
The most interesting part about this 7D announcement is its MSRP of $2699. That is identical to the 5DII MSRP. The price tells us that the 7D is not a lesser camera than the 5D2, nor is it a better camera. The new camera will likely address all the complaints people had about the 5DII. Better AF, faster speed, weather sealing, smaller files. And how will they accomplish this at the same price point?
My guess: Canon will downgrade the speed demon 1.3x camera design from the 1D series, into the 7D series. The spiritual successor to the 1D Mark III --- sold at the same price as a 5D Mark II. Compared to the Nikon D700, it will have HD video and a 1.3x longer reach. The longer reach is not to be underestimated --- telephoto reach is a big deal for a prosumer sports camera. The target demographic is unlikely to have 500mm and 600mm lenses readily available.
I think the 7D will mark Canon's return to a single 1-series entity next year. No more separation between 1D & 1Ds. Instead, that separation between "performance" and "image quality" will come in the form of the 7D & 5D series.
and FYI, the 1D bodies have mic's for more than five years...
on the back, not the front. The only cameras with mics on the front are the 5D2 and 500D, both of which have video. A mic on the back is for speaking into, a mic on the front is for recording the subjects speaking. Mics are directional because the camera body is a serious sound obstacle.
You guys need to go check out some where like Mac Rumors to see just how real something faked can get. This is nothing. The lengths I've seen fakers go to in the Mac world, this barely registers. Things like the Apple iHome and the Apple iWalk have been far more elaborate than an image of a tiny badge that could have been relatively easily doctored by a competent PShopper.
I might be all wrong and for those that want it, I hope it's real, but this tiny badge is not proof of anything in my eyes!
If the 7D exists I seriously doubt it will be full frame.
This is the 50D upgrade but changing the numbering scheme to 7D series.
I expect
HD video similar to 5Dmk2
same sensor, 15 megapixels, APS-C
improved AF
Possibly another feature such as flash commander mode, GPS.
The 5D is the entry level full frame model and will fall steadily in price as demand and competition dictate. The original 5D dropped a lot in price in the last year of it's life so I think Canon has plenty of margin with the current 5Dmk2.

At $2700, it is hard to see how it could be a 50D upgrade.
i think a smart move would be a canon 7D APS-H (1.3x) 15MP sensor, OLED and a faster processor...
for the following reasons
1) it would be a nice save for the not so glamorous 50D's rush to 15MP sensor..
2) noway they would produce a full frame that at same price point as 5D .. just poor marketing
3) break off the canon line up to 4 distinct families, APS-C XXXD, aps-H 7D, full frame 5D and bigbrother 1D ...
15MP on 7D would be a sweet compromise, you get wider field of view, cleaner sensor and compensate the magnification with 15MP resolution that you can actually use...

I tend to think so too.
But I was thinking about this today - if Canon feels that rumored Sony A850 might be a threat to the 5DII, the 7D might as well be a FF model. Basically a 5DII but with smaller number of megapixels.
