Well she'll be surprised at how far along the thread has gone and how many more people have contributed! I hope she didn't get the swine flu! That damn thing has reached San Jose... I try to stay away from all people nowadays. That's why I'm always out shooting birds! Hopefully I wont get bird flu! Haha!
Yikes! No I didn't get the memo... But yes its really close to home now. Its in South San Jose at some high school I guess which is only 10 miles from my home! Double Yikes!
Some of you guys have been a real inspiration. I *just* got my 400/5.6 so need to learn a lot, but here's one for starters! (Cropped the hell out of it, I love having almost 17MP to choose from.)

Yes, I did get more involved than I thought I would be and I did not get to go to the nature reserve My business has kept me busy over the past few days so no time to play for me.

sooo, I was at the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Reserve on Saturday - my recent fad, trying new places. Anyhow, looks like wintering birds are mostly gone and there were only a few straddlers, nothing to write home about.

The upper post is held onto the lower post with 2 wingnuts so I can lower it to replace the suet or the entire perch. The perch is held onto the upper post with screw tightened crimps so I can replace the perch occassionally. A suet cage hangs from the perch. My backyard don't seem to attract any interesting birds as I already have a traditional bird feeder and bird bath and so far I've only had finches, black phoebe, some dull brown bird, stellars jay, blue jay, robin, mourning dove, and juncos. There are also crows that are not going to visit the perch, turkey vultures and RTHs that only visit a mile in the sky, and hummers which I will likely put up some sort of hummer magnet later to attract. BUTTTT, it would still be interesting to get some sharp closeup shots and I hope to attract other more interesting birds that I've heard to be around my area....Show more →
