Thank you again Peter... the middle one is how I feel when I get an oof shot! Hahahahha!! And ya! Where is this phantom Noelle person I vaguely remember?

When the BIF competition gets hot, get outta the kitchen! Maybe with enough egging, she will return!

For all we know, Noelle could be taking lessons in BIF photography from Jim Neiger right now.

However, Conrad has done a major metamorphosis of his bird photography thru his dedication, persistence, open mindedness and a quick reflex.
What a quick study he is !
Just take a look at some of his images at the beginning of this thread, and compare them with what he's got today.

+1 on Conrad's progress.

Maybe Ms N. is playing mind games with her competition, silence is a very potent weapon!

I don;t shoot BIF much with this lens anymore, I usually use the 500/4L now. I should more. But here are a few more from way back that I haven't already posted. Then I got the 500

Gene: You are definitely the resident BIF expert, those shots are brilliant! The 400 is a pleasure to handhold, are you still handholding the 500 without any additional contraption?

Thanks,

For BIF depends. If I am shooting eagles all day it is mostly on a tripod. But it is much easier for flight hand held for as long as you can hold it Still I usally do hand held unless it is a lengthy shoot.

How much cropping do you guys have to do with those bird photos? I use 400mm on a cropper and a lot of the times I still have to crop quite a lot.

This one I only had to crop the left and right side. It's just that big.

Awesome Spider!

Not much cropping on on mine except the Red-tailed talon and the SHC, which maybe 65% of original. So long ago.

I met and photographed one of Noelle's old pals this morning. He told me they were awaiting with open wings her return to shootin'.

So where is Noelle? All joking aside, shouldn't we start to worry? Her profile shows her last post was 5 days ago after posting religiously everyday at least since this thread started.

Now see Peter, was this an overcast day? Evertime I try to shoot one of these cormorants its usually BLACK with no detail. Not like this! Great shot man!

Didn't she say she had some obligations that would keep her away for a few days? Perhaps she is holed up somewhere processing her hundreds of photos to blow me out of the running! Haha! Then again she could have curled up into a ball clutching her 400mm and is softly sobbing into her camera bag. Hehe....

Oh, I must'a missed that one buried in this 1,000 post thread. In that case, carry on, egg-on, razz-on...

Hey Wing, I decided not to send my equipment out to caliberation till summer starts. Seems like I should take advantage of all the activity here in the South Bay now. I hear it will slow down soon enough.

Also, where are the results from your backyard setup?

Probably a good idea about the calibration as long as your equipment is still under warranty. Backyard setup results will be determined this weekend, so far I haven't seen much action, but then again, it's kinda late by the time I get home from work. I will likely modify it this weekend as well. My other store-bought bird feeder is doing good business but it sits a bit too far in the backyard for my 400 to reach. Perhaps my new home-made one is too close to the house or perhaps the birds need time to get acquainted with it...time will tell.

Noelle was attending the PPANJ (Professional Photographers Association of New Jersey) convention and trade show in Atlantic City, NJ from 4/26 - 4/28. She probably got more involved than she had planned.
