Geez, Conrad, I wish I knew that before I took this shot with the 400 f/5.6 prime.

Behold the exif data.
20D.....handheld/unsupported
ISO 400
f/5.6
1/80 sec (yup, you've read that right )

Well, generally you were right. It's just that sometimes, not very often, my hand gets very steady as soon as the meds kick in.

How about 1/20s handheld and unsupported? Anyway, I guess the advantage of being a newbie is that you don't have any preconception of what is and isn't possible so you give it a go anyway.

I know what you mean Noelle, I went out again yesterday and got super-skunked. Not even a sparrow worth shooting. No ducks, no crows... its like they all flew away! What's going on? Anyway, I'm going to try again today after work for an hour or so and see what's out there. Hope you are having more luck than me!

That greeny in flight is a prize catch, Conrad. Did you get these at your Alviso location?

The second Green Heron in-flight image is very nice in all important ways.
I think even Jimmy Neiger would be happy with having shot one like that.
That does it. I think Noelle should be throwing a white towel into the rink now.

No Wing. I got all of the last 20 or so shots in Santa Clara at San Tomas Aquino Creek right behind the Intel campus! Pretty cool huh?

Funny Peter I was thinking the exact same thing! Hehe... Poor Noelle... She still has that osprey stuff over me though. Just wait, give me a few weeks I will find one to top those too! Hehe...

I think on one end of the spectrum are so called "birders". They pursue 'collecting' of different species.......the more species, the rarer they are, the better.
On the other end of the spectrum are pure photographers. They make great images out of just about anything.
Most of us are somewhere in between those two extremes.

I'd suggest you hop to the Pixelshooter.com forum and check images made by Mao Ouyang. IMO he happily combines both aspects of bird and wildlife photography better than anyone I know.

NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!

Little Noelle does not scare easily

I have been sorting 500 preschool pics today and it was cloudy so I had no time to go out

I will say I am proud of Conrad

The words Poor and Noelle should never be used in the same sentence!

I will have to go visit my Osprey's tomorrow ....so watch out Mr. TAN!
