1/80 sec (yup, you've read that right )
How about 1/20s handheld and unsupported? Anyway, I guess the advantage of being a newbie is that you don't have any preconception of what is and isn't possible so you give it a go anyway. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3483/3463664181_e6c9c55363_o.jpg

I got absolutely nothing today at the park!! UGH!!
I know what you mean Noelle, I went out again yesterday and got super-skunked. Not even a sparrow worth shooting. No ducks, no crows... its like they all flew away! What's going on? Anyway, I'm going to try again today after work for an hour or so and see what's out there. Hope you are having more luck than me!
The second Green Heron in-flight image is very nice in all important ways.
I think even Jimmy Neiger would be happy with having shot one like that.
That does it. I think Noelle should be throwing a white towel into the rink now.

I think on one end of the spectrum are so called "birders". They pursue 'collecting' of different species.......the more species, the rarer they are, the better.
On the other end of the spectrum are pure photographers. They make great images out of just about anything.
Most of us are somewhere in between those two extremes.
I'd suggest you hop to the Pixelshooter.com forum and check images made by Mao Ouyang. IMO he happily combines both aspects of bird and wildlife photography better than anyone I know.

NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!
Little Noelle does not scare easily
I have been sorting 500 preschool pics today and it was cloudy so I had no time to go out

The words Poor and Noelle should never be used in the same sentence!
I will have to go visit my Osprey's tomorrow ....so watch out Mr. TAN!
