Just got a call from Adorama to verify that I still wanted the camera. He told me that it will be shipped either this Friday or next Monday at the latest.
I held a 5D Mk II production model in my hands Friday night. I had to lick my lips to keep the drool from visibly dripping down my chin. SERIOUS lust was born. I MUST have this camera.
The Canon rep (whose camera this was) stated that the expectation was for the fist shipment to arrive (to Seattle anyway) in the next 1 -2 weeks. The only caveat is they don't know how big that shipment will be.
For me this is immaterial as I don't wish to buy it on credit and must therefore save up for it for a few months, even if that means I get it the week after tulip season. IMHO the best time to buy a camera is when it exists and when you have the money. Even if one shooting season ends another will begin...
Shipments of Canon EOS 5D Mark II to U.S. dealers commencing tomorrow
Monday, November 24, 2008 | by Rob Galbraith
Shipments of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II will begin leaving Canon USA's distribution centres en route to U.S. dealers starting November 25, 2008, says Chuck Westfall, Technical Advisor at Canon USA. This should translate into some dealers being able to put cameras into the hands of customers before the end of the week, though shipping times, the speed at which dealers can absorb the arriving stock and the U.S. holiday weekend will all impact when Canon's newest 21.03 million image pixel digital SLR comes available in the U.S. in the days ahead.
As of this writing, we can't confirm if key 5D Mark II accessories are also beginning to ship to retailers tomorrow in the U.S. Earlier this month, however, Westfall had indicated items such as extra Battery Pack LP-E6s, Battery Grip BG-E6, Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E4/E4A and EG-series focusing screens were expected to ship at about the same time as the camera body.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II was announced on September 16, 2008 and has an expected street price of US$2699 in the U.S.
Retailers in Canada were recently informed that they could expect their initial units of the camera beginning the first week of December 2008. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II has an expected street price of CDN$3099.99 in Canada.

Well, I guess that takes away one thing for the professional whiners to whine about.
Hooray! We will all soon have something to complain about. I'm in the top 10 of my local dealer and in the Top 500 with Adorama and hopefully I can whine by end of week after my Turkey dinner.

That's good news, anyone else getting the same message? I ordered Sept 22nd, hopefully I am one of the first lucky ones.
I ordered Sept 20th from Adorama and I'm slightly above number 500 out of 1100 pre-orders. I did not get a call from Adorama. I don't know how many Adorama will get, but based upon the past they get about 100 units at first and then a 100 every two weeks. My guess is that if you didn't pre-order by Friday Sept. 19th, you won't be getting a 5DMkII by next week.

Let hope I'm wrong.
My order was placed on the 17th and I’m 107 on the list. Either at least seven people cancelled their order or they are getting more than 100 on the first batch.
I think typically 1/3 of pre-orders are canceled or the retailer can't get a hold of the person interested.
I'm number 491 and Adorama just contacted me back saying they *may* be able to fill most pre-orders by 2nd week of December based upon the rumors they hear. However, they confirmed I will NOT get mine from them next week.
