The 5D has a different sensor and a different focusing system from either the 50D or the 1D. Nothing about the focusing systems of either the 1D or the 50D tells you much of anything about the focusing of the 5D Mk II.
Like I said, this is most definitely not the camera for everyone. But judging by the unprecedented number of people on the waiting list (in spite of the appalling state of the economy) the 5D II promises to be a much bigger hit than the 5D was .... and the 5D was huge. I am also pretty sure it will be a bigger seller than the D700.

I asked a Conon rep a few weeks ago and he insisted on the end of the month, same as most other sources. Since 5D II is shipping in China, I would say it should be available at the end of this month or early Dec in US. Usually, it is 1-2 weeks later in US than China for a new camera.
A Honkong based shipment 25% over the german Canon pricing to get it 2-6 weeks earlier does not sound acceptable to me.
But the additional 650 US $ in the companies Ebay Ad makes the included 6 "free gifts" and "5 star service" a great offer :-) (that was a joke, of course)
I think it's fantastic that Canon Aus are finally not only being competitive but quite litterally undercutting the grey importers... i can't find any sign on DD's website they're going to still import them... Probably can't sell for cheap enough.

It is good, but they didn't drop the price when the dollar was at almost 1:1 with the US and at 110 yen. What I don't get is that Australia's trade with Japan is the largest (or at least one of) bilateral trade partnership in the world. There's plenty of stuff coming here from Japan (and plenty going there from here). It couldn't be too expensive to get stuff here.

Comparing the 50D and the 1DmkIII is bizarre, agreed. A better comparison for the 5DmkII would be the 1DsmkIII.

The original price ($3795 Body only, And $5115 for the kit) was a mistake and was corrected the next day, But those who had ordered before the change will still get it at the first that was listed on their website.
I've ordered the kit and got a email from them today confirming that I will get mine in the first delivery. I'm hoping to have mine by the end of this week.
My Philippine dealer called to inform me that my 5D Mark II will arrive mid-December at a price point lower than the official Canon Philippine price of P128,000/USD2,618.37. Also the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM goes lower than the USD4,721 I saw somewhere on the web. EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM goes for USD164 more but it's better than flying to Hong Kong!
China does more business on the weekend than most of the world, so it's likely we will here of more deliveries this week. Anyone know for sure if the 5DII is assembled in Japan?
I cant wait for this thing to arrive I sold most of my camera gear thinking it was burned out and bored with photography...then I got bit by the bug again, and bought my gear back (last time I do that!) and now its all sitting here waiting for my 5D Mark II to arrive
Just got a call from Adorama to verify that I still wanted the camera. He told me that it will be shipped either this Friday or next Monday at the latest.
