popup video (makes people smile immediately; except for D90 owners)
wireless joystick (a la Wii)
cornerless image (since no issues with AF in the corner anymore and no vignetting or edge abberations)
I have to agree on the ultrabroad submirror, but then with fix button connected to the MLU setting(Rob Galbraith mode)
no white balance mode (for special FX picture style)
stepless crop mode (not only EF-S, but also four thirds, micro four thirds and other important sensor modes)
tilt and shift sensor (no need for TS lenses anymore)
instead of face detection we need: butt detection (for nude art photographs)
also butt detection in live view mode (handy in macro setup)
huge viewfinder like Nikon F Photomatic (for better professional looks)
I could go on, it's not even a start. You probably get the message: the real EOSfun is not in features. It's in image quality, that's why we want more megapixels, always more megapixels, there is no substitute for megapixels. Even Nikon knows

The pop-up flash is an important factor for her.
Are you having a laugh? Is that the ONLY reason to swap? Gee it's main feature...a pop up flash. Worth the whole £500 (UKP) for that feature alone.
What Minolta have always lacked is an effective marketing strategy. Which is why we all think that the current Sony gear is so poor. It's actually a lot better gear than we give it credence for. All they need to do is market it better...enter Sony.
Trust me, in 3-4 years we will view Sony as a serious competitor.

I remember when Minolta entered the digital race with a 6 megapixel camera when everyone else was 8 or more. That alone was bad marketing.
Add their blurb about image quality. They said something to the effect that you could get a great quality 8x10 inch print and as no one usually prints larger than that "therefore the print quality issue is solved".
I mean wow, what a line designed to put anyone off of purchasing a digital camera.

Better suggestions might have been:
pop-up flas
infinite resolution using the time domain by slowly moving the sensor
face detection not in liveview via a broader submirror
EF-S crop mode
a very compact viewfinderless liveview only version
a joystick/button in the middle of the big wheel
5 stops of exposure compensation
sensor IS

Well it gives me a chuckle every time someone gets excited about it...
That and the pop up flash thing... now that is annoying!!!
Vann
I feel exactly the same, Vann. And I have some additions: Issues like how much Canon marketing failed, how bad Canons buildt is, that Nikon does a better job etc, etc.
As far I remember this is a RUMOR thread about the 5D successor. And it will be till we know the facts. Why take some people evrything so serious?
Waiting time is hard enought. I like to watch that thread with some humor, instead of fighting anybody elses opinion that is different. Nobody here realy knows anything better than others concerning the thread issue. Who might do is under NDA I guess.
Welcome to our forum! You have nice habits and a kind post for your very first one. It's not as bad as it seems! Just try to add value to the post of the Original Poster of a topic and have EOSfun! The real EOSfun is never nonsense!
And if you already know about that, then I am sorry and don't be harsh
David
No, David. You catched the right train. Just some stations late. But maybe I am wrong and you are the first here. I can not follow all those 42 pages comments. I read the northlight info last thursday. I immediatelly ran to the newspapershop at the main station and asked for that mag.
But even they offer hundreds of international titels - this one was not with it. :-(
They neither could tell me if it is already available in France (I do not think so).

I said 'current'. The best 'current' alternative to the 5D is not a 5D2, since it is not available, or even announced.
My sister loved her 5D because of full frame and the viewfinder, but the absense of a pop-up flash has been a real pain for her. All her friends are taking pictures when she can't. She is not happy to buy and lug around an expensive and bulky pro dedicated flash unit. Her only option for full frame and built-in flash that runs off the camera battery is...
The 5D isn't a pro camera, it's an affordable full frame camera. It needs to compete with any other affordable full-frame cameras out there, and not just in the eyes of pros. Or should I recommend to her a 50D. She tried a 40D the other day and hated the pokey viewfinder. What should I recommend?
