This right here!!!

Reticulation occurs due to (in my experience) higher temperatures during development. I had an entire roll of 400TX ruined a few months ago because of these “squiggly patterned lines/worms” on the negative. I didn’t notice it until after DSLR scanning and it looked horrible on my portrait photos. I’ll see if I can find the scans if I haven’t already deleted them and post them here.

A friend of mine developed the film for me, she's not sure what happened. Like you, she said she hasn't seen it in years. She thinks the wash and photo flo might have been too warm when she was thinking back.

As I look at the pictures more, while I wouldn't have necessarily chosen to add it, I now find the reticulation to provide a nice additional texture to the photos at normal viewing sizes.

Luckily, I didn't delete my reticulated Tri-X scanned jpegs! A few of these are from mid summer when it was still hot enough to go swimming at Grandma's place.

I shot these on my FM3a with a leitaxed 80 Summilux. These were scanned on my A7rIV using a plustek 35mm negative holder and a L4s Huion LED light pad I picked up on the cheap off of Amazon.

Thank you very much Huss! The indoor photos were done when the air was too unhealthy to go outside due to the raging California wild fires. I’ll be developing, scanning and posting a lot more by middle of next month. All of that is on hold until some film scanning hardware comes in. I haven’t developed color film (C-41) in over two years and I already have six rolls of various color stocks waiting in the fridge, let alone some slide and B&W rolls as well.

I love going over all the posted photos in this thread as it’s a big inspiration to continue to shoot when COVID has your spirit and motivation on lockdown too. Also, the potential health risks and constant reminder kind of squashes some of the much needed creativity as well.

Very nice!

Up close, I definitely did not like the look of the reticulation pattern. At normal sizes though, not so bad.

That squiggly pattern can have a bit of a charm or add some texture to certain photos. From a distance, it’s not really noticeable, but can be a bit off putting when pixel peeping.

When I first noticed the reticulation, shortly after scanning, I thought something was wrong with my chemicals or film. A bit of Googling calmed a bit of my concern as looking back I remember doing a prewash of the negative...in likely a much warmer temperature than the recommended 20C...and most likely my dev chemical and post wash temperatures as well. I think I was in a hurry when I developed that particular roll and bypassed my usual ice soak to bring my room temp tap water down to 20C. Oh well, lesson learned and haste makes waste.

This leads to my question on pre washing. Do you pre wash prior to development at all, or only for certain film stocks? I mainly shot TMAX 400TMY(?) and was told to always pre wash the film before developing, and have been doing so for all my films. I do recall seeing a bluish/purple dye when washing TMAX though.

I've been shooting everything I could get my hands on hand have never pre-washed. And have not had issues related to that. Including TMAX, Delta, Tri-X, etc etc

Ok, I have to ask about this photo. Is that supposed to be a mermaid on a basketball hoop?
