Same as above, but with mom in the picture. Any recs for 21mm & 50mm lenses on the F3?
Never shot as wide as a 21 with the F mount ("wided out" at 28mm with the 28mm f/2.8 AI-s, another fave), but I am a big fan of the 50mm f/1.2 AI-s. Haven't shot it much on film (somehow keep picking up the M-A instead of the F2), but historically it has been a favourite lens on digital Nikons. Has some tendency to flare in interesting ways, at f/2 is an extremely good performer, and is totally serviceable wide open when needed. Only downside is size/weight. Has basically the same footprint as a Noct-NIKKOR 58 f/1.2 but without the corner coma performance, but also at about an order of magnitude less expensive. Would not hesitate to recommend.

@dourbalistar uses a 50 1.8 Ai-S with very good results. There are a few versions of this lens. I used Nikons for years and always preferred the 50 2.0. @_jim_ suggested the 20 but the 24 was a favorite for many years.
The 20mm f/4 is really a fun size...just a little bigger than the 50mm f/1.8 pancake (which is optically swell...and the exact same lens as the 50mm f/1.8D).
Tried the Zeiss Ikon Contaflex II out after fixing it. I posted a picture of it in one of these threads - i'll look it up. The meter and shutter are accurate, but my focusing skills are not so good. Carl Zeiss Tessar 45mm f2.8
Kentmere 100 in xtol 1+1 dilution 8 minues at 68 degrees
Landscape in shadow and almost blown highlights
Here is the $25 junk store find. Had a tiny dent that made opening it difficult - fixed now
Contaflex II again. One of the grand kids (10 months old). She is now mobile, and all my cats run for their dear lives. She lets out ear piercing squeals when she sees a cat and takes off crawling almost faster than I can walk. Missed focus - again.

The tones on that film are just perfect-
Is that you are gettin good at devolving then editing or does the film really deliver those neutral tones that seem to pop-
Thanks Rusty. The film really is great. But probably a combo of everything. The biggest change that makes me enjoy the process much more is the scanner (Coolscan 5000). I just insert the film in uncut and it scans the whole roll by itself with great colors. I’ve created import presets into Lightroom for the various film stocks, so editing now is also super minimal.

I have a couple of questions. First is what conversation software are you using? Second is are you using it with a dedicated computer? I really like the almost pastel tones you’re getting with the 500T. It helps to spend time with a single film and find what works best. It’s also a bonus to find a device that gives you good output with minimal interference.

lifeandmylens,
Just curious if you modified the SA-21 to make a SA-30 for your scanner, and what scanning software are you using?

I'm using Nikon Scan. I greatly prefer it to Vuescan / NLP / Silverfast. I bought a 2010 Mac Pro from Facebook marketplace and installed Snow Leopard. But actually decided to use it as my smart home computer / media server, so am running Windows 10 on it via bootcamp and running Nikon Scan on Windows.
I don't know that the vision films are any better than say Portra's but I'm so used to using them now I see no reason to shoot Portras anymore. Maybe I should sell my stockpile of them? The vision films are thicker, and to my eye at least, handle overexposure better.

I bought an SA-21 and was planning to modify it, but came across an SA-30 with the take up reel on eBay for not an insane price so just bought that and sold the SA-21.
