I'm selling my 5D for $1600 - because I need the money short-term, not because I believe the replacement is coming out soon. I think it will be Photokina. What I think has happened is Canon held back the camera to add a couple more features, and to exhaustively field test all the new features. Nikon just slapped them down hard, and they need something impressive to stop the market share loss. That, and they know it's suicide to bring out another camera that doesn't work right.
However, I am consoling myself about selling the camera, because I expect to buy it's replacement at the end of the year.

No matter what Canon launches today, 1600$ for a 5D is still a kickass deal if you have the glass to match that sweet body. I still believe that a 5D with the 85L or 135L is the closest you'll get to magic without reading Harry Potter.
I'm getting a full frame, one way or the other, as soon as the 24-70 is in the bag.
All I know is I have many times over made my $ back with the 5D's that I have owned. It's the only body that I trust 100%. Sad when you have a camera that is nearly 3x the price and worried about AF all the time. I am gaining trust in my MKIII after a few trips to various Canon facilities...but I am always double/triple checking every single shot where as my 5Ds I am quite confident. 10FPS is great, but not when you're too busy checking focus and missing moments. I'll take 3FPS and not worry anytime.
Hoping for a successful 5D II launch...I'll get one, but I'll be #$#$# if I'll be a beta/early adopter for Canon again.

Keeping my eyes and ears open...
Same here. I'm getting one if half the rumored specs are true, but it will be at LEAST 6 months from now. Would love being able to keep my 40D for backup and tele work. 6-9 months should give me the time to pony up the dough without having to sell my 40D - And the 5D mk II price will have time to take the first couple of plunges.
I'm wondering how far the price will drop for the current 5D once the 5D2 comes out.
I remember just before the 40D came out last year people were all saying that 30D price wouldn't drop much further than the $900 it was going for at the time. Well, they were wrong. Within 2 months of the 40D intro Fry's Electronics started unloading their last batch of 30D cameras for $399. http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=85145&t=697527
Fry's has a reseller rating of 4.2. Not reputable in my view and therefore a poor base case.
30D refurbs are going for $640 at Adorama, new ones for $835 with a 4GB CF card. XTis are $520 new at Adorama and Amazon, two reputable, high volume shops.
I think you will be waiting quite awhile for a new $500 5D.
The 5D was $3300 when it was released. It ain't ever gonna fall close to $500. The 30D and XTi were far, far cheaper when new.
New 5D bodies will probably sell out shortly after the new model is released (whenever that will be) and I suspect used cameras will all have died an electronic death before they ever start exchanging hands for that price

Fry's is a good general electronics store that I buy from almost every week (new movies and magazines every tuesday ). I'll be making a dash to my local Fry's and pick my self up a cheap third body (crossing fingers). I doubt you'll ever get a 5D for $500, but I bought my Brand New 5D for $1,275 from Amazon.com ($2600 kit - $400 in rebates - $925 Canon 24-105 f/4L).

Sure they will. All gear depreciates. Look at the 1D Mark 1 it was $5000 new five years ago and can now be had for $500. After a couple of generations of development all legacy gear ends up at the sub $1k price point.
Everyone needs to buy the new bodies when they come out so that I can get a deal on the obsolete ones
I can't get over how many people think this 5d replacement is going to be the godliest thing to come to the digital camera world, since hell I don't know. In threads the thing gets compared to a 1ds3 or whatever.
Here's something I know about the 5d replacement...you'll know when it comes out, when it comes out.
You'll know what it does, when it comes out.
I'd be willing to bet the cost of one though, that it's not going to be a 1dm3, for 3K$.

Wrong
In 2001 when the 1D came out, it was 7,000. I got mine for $650 2 months ago.
Seven years and a $6500 drop (give or take).... not bad! I eat my words! However, I do think that DLSR technology has matured a lot since 2001, so such large declines might be a thing of the past. And I'm not sure a 5D will survive quite as long as a 1D-series body.
Seems the rumors where just that , I am waiting for a decent up to date FF my 40D
is great but not with wide lenses. I suppose looking at Nikon FF is the only option?
Perhaps someone here can recommend a body available right now, I like to use my collection of Leica R glass.
