I hope this isn't true. I can't afford it right now. I saved for 3 months for a 40D. My wife will kill me if this rumor is true because I can't pass that camera up. I guess I will have to sell my truck or something. If this thing really will shoot 6 FPS and have ISO 25600, plus the 5D image quality, why would I ever need anything else? WOW. I never believe rumors. This does SOUND nice though.
I thought there was a certain Canon style to the writing, a bit more formal than your usual forum junkyard dog. It passed my sniff test. I think they can have a half dozen or more forms of moderate variants rolling along just waiting for a final selection. The US maybe freaking out economically but there are still 5.7 billion others on this sphere so if you can't afford it this time around that's fine

No way in HELL they would build a new camera and wait a year to launch it. Pretty much the safest way to lose out to the competition. Nikon has set the bar pretty darn high with the new D3 in regards to IQ - If canon had the guns to blow the D3 away, they would have done it already.
My fingers are still crossed for April 22. but a tiny voice inside my head is saying August 08 instead. Ah well, more time to pony up the dough, I guess.
It took Canon almost 1 year to release the 1DsMKIII as proto types existed a year ago.

Seriously though, I think Canon intentionally leaked this info, so those who are sitting on the fence between Canon and Nikon will continue wait it out.

Is that frame rate of 6/3 the difference between 12bit and 14bit shooting?
Some of the rumors say that there will be 2 different models (3D/7D). I assume [well if true of course] there will be one one with single DigicIII at 3fps and one with 2 like the 1D series at 6fps. It make sense since the DigicIII can deal with about 50Mb of data per second.
I guess we will see in a month...

Lol, sorry about the repost guys - It was news to me, but then again, I am very slow.
The spec sheet is an exact printout of my wishlist, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping like a madman. Looking at various photography sites, I'm not the only one.
But I sure as hell won't sell my 40D before an official announcement from Canon! If the spec sheet is true, it will be one hell of a camera.
yeah the specs would be a dream for me!
(well, but the $3500 price )
but still, with selling off a 20D, 40D and a spare lens, maybe somehow....
let's hope it's true and that it can AI servo AF very well.
$3500? No way. 5D was 2X the price of 20D back then and now 40D is $1200, so a 5D II cannot be more than $2400. Also, back then there wasn't a Nikon FF in the game, so that's why Canon could charge whatever they wanted for FF e.g. 1Ds and 5D. If it is a $3500 camera, it will have to be a 1D Mk IV FF. I think people used to 5D price and expect a FF camera from Canon around $2K, otherwise why won't they just buy a new 5D or a used 5D.
If they change the number they can change the expectations. Who knows what they will drop on us. But if they for whatever reason drop a top of the line focus unit into it they just might go in at more than 2x the XXD camera. People talk quality but often cheap out for price. Perhaps a $3500 version might bring major mojo to the table and be more or less a fig leaf 1d replacement for all but the most hard core sports shooters. Beatsa mea. I'd pay for mojo but I can't justify 40% more for a S version and wanted my next body to be FF. So I've been sitting on my wallet. Perhaps Canon read my mind and will do 1 FF, 2 mojo and 3 smaller than $D pricing. I'd call my dealer for that.
Most people would be all over this for $3500, except you.

I too find the $3500 too much. Nikon will reduce their prices by then, and will still look more attractive than Canon's camera. Canon needs to have a sub $2500 camera on the market... $3500 is just too much...
Something near $2000 will attract pro and semi-pro shooters, and even amateurs like me...
I doubt the new model will sell for the same price as the old one when it was launched... my guess is that it'll go for about $3K, which would still make it by far the cheapest FF body available (probably until at least the end of the year).
But that would still leave a honking great gap, price-wise, in Canon's lineup.
Canon is in the 2000$ class with it's 5D. A 5D successor can't go into the 3500$ class without damage to it's business. Too many harm to 1DmkIII sales. Too many people with a 2000-2500$ budget left out. No alternative to D300, no competition to Sony Alpha a.o. Also analyse the specs in comparison to 1D series, too close to the 1DmkIII. This would be direct competition to that model. This could only be a true rumor if Canon introduce two cameras and fill that 2000$ gap in it's line and replace the 1DmkIII.
Anyway, don't hold your breath until april 22nd and have EOSfun. Until after the summertime, just before Kina
i dont think they put so much thought into pricing their stuff.
it's more like during a beer session, someone says "hey. adachi, how much should we sell the camera for?"
adachi thinks for a second, and replies "well i figure i need a 10 mil bonus to get my new yacht next year, so how about $3000? you guys sell 10,000 of these and i get my new yacht."
I agree with these statements. However, most people didn't like spending $3400 (or whatever) for the 5d, but they did. With a price point of less than half than the Ds3, with performance similar to the Ds2, most pros will be all over this camera even at $3500 (even thought we'll be grumbling while buying it). A camera like this won't be for everyone, which is why it won't be priced starting with a 2 or a long time.
Price point holes in lineup? They seem to be fine a progression of sorts. Cheapest= rebel <1k, better= 40d >1k, best keener= 5d 2k, pro or keener with more money=1d 4plus k, pro with ego, money or rich amateur blinger= 1ds 7plus k. Insert typical working professional at any of the camera positions as it all just depends on credit and or client base and a willingness to spend on tools or tough it out. One last thing, thank you amateurs for driving volumes up and prices down or I'd be stuck working with crap like the d30 ala 7 years ago.
No canon digital SLR Camera has ever been announced in April May or June.
The model cycle has increased from 2 years to 3 years.
The first 5d was announced in August 2005.
I would expect the Mk II to be announced in August 2008.
