I don't know, but this question is in all seriousness. Are the owners of BH of the Jewish faith? I haven't heard of too many businesses of that volume, shutting down for passover, or is there something more to it that I'm just to dumb to know?

yes. both B&H and Adorama are owned and operated by hasidic jews. so, you have to plan your crisises beforehand...i showed up at 9am on friday to pick up several backup modeling lights and another (as a backup) off-camera flash cord for my gigs this week.
I don't think that there is any reason that race or religion needs to be discussed on this forum. Both B&H and Adorama gave notice of their holiday closings, but B&H in particular had a pop-up weeks in advance that reminded you that they were going to be closed this week every time you visited the site. If you have a problem with those sellers being closed, go somewhere else for the time being. If you're in a jam and need something, go to your local camera store. To make remarks like those above are unacceptable.
I don't see any racist remarks, I just wondered why B&H holiday closing had anything to do with a release of the 5d2,,, like Canon is going to wait until they reopen to announce the release
I disagree. There is a reason for religion to be discussed.
It is solely on account of religion that B n H is closed.
If it is know that a store is owned by hasidic jews,
then you can anticipate when it will be closed based on religious holidays.
However, B & H is getting more and more inconvenient with their policy.
It used to be that you could place an order on their site during the holidays.
Now you can't
Some times, you can search the site during the holidays, other times you can't.
Its a pita, but there are plenty of other sites out there.

There are kosher injunctions against *causing* various sorts of work on holy days, so, it's not hard to imagine very orthodox jews deciding to be more and more strict about even their machines doing anything at those times, and new rules being adopted for new tech.
Those blasted popups reminders between every screen, though - it's too bad there's no injunction against needlessly annoying people.
This is ridiculous. These retailers run their business the way that they see fit. It is their choice to observe their religious holidays and I'm sure that they are aware that there will be lost sales in that time period. What's the difference if they wanted to be closed every Tuesday, or be like the auto industry and take a plant shut down for two weeks in July? Honestly people, there is more than one place to buy camera equipment and while I'm sure they are a large consumer of Canon products, I'm sure that their store schedule isn't a consideration for Canon's product release announcements.
I'm not Jewish, but my kids are I applaude B&H and Adorama for not putting commerce ahead of their religous principles. And, I'm an atheist! Sure would be a better country if people were practicing their personal moral convictions, but not trying to force them on any one else.

Agreed. 9th Ave and 33rd St. isn't the center of the universe. My recollection from looking at Canon's recent results is that it roughly sells a third of its cameras in the Americas, a third in Europe and a third in Asia. One or two stores in a region are not going to drive their release decisions. Even if B&H and Adorama were open during the announcements, they couldn't sell the new cameras anyway! They could get caught with some old stock and wouldn't be able to take new orders while closed but I think that's it.

I would of hired a non-jewish friend to continue bussiness for me, lol. They probably lost alot of sales for being closed so long. But they still have mine, I've been patiently waiting for them to reopen to get my D300 grip and rechargeable batteries.

These original 1D bodies you guys are talking about are all used, right? Who still has new stock?
Nobody I guess. But you can find them in the used market.
I bought one for studiowork for $650,- Great image quality and since I print on A4 4,1 megapixel is enough.

You can still place an order online with B&H this week even though they're closed. I placed one this morning. Of course it won't ship until Monday but I can live with that. The only time they're not accepting orders online is from Friday evening to Sunday evening during this holiday.
