I've seen people complain this is actually more expensive than the 5D when it was first introduced. Such a price hike would be unprecedented and they all were expecting a price drop.
I guess those people were all confused. Back when the 5D was introduced, the US$ was actually worth something.
Other than that, it's nice to see my entire wish list in a 5D Mk II rumor
Now if only Canon would live up to the rumors....
Seriously though, I think Canon intentionally leaked this info, so those who are sitting on the fence between Canon and Nikon will continue wait it out.

Canon is waiting for everyone to get there 'economic' stimulus check in the mail before they launch it! :-p
On paper seems very close and better in some aspects to the 1DS mark 3. I have seen these specs elsewhere before so as much as id love to see it be true, I seems highly unlikely. But heres to hoping!
Which leads me to wonder if Canon's got a 1Ds3n up their sleeve, since they won't be in the number 1 slot after Sony/Nikon come out with their 24mp full frame cameras (if this is indeed true)

Sounds like it two big for April 1st, so they double-doubled it.
$3499 doesn't sound that bad, especially if that is A) list, and B) early adopter pricing. I'd say by this time next year, have it about $2900.
I think the interesting thing is that they can take the current 5D model and slash its price down and drop it on the head of the D300. Then they'll really have the D300 bracketed with the 40D, 5D and 5DII.
Is that frame rate of 6/3 the difference between 12bit and 14bit shooting?
No, I don't feel that, after introducing a MkII, there still is a place in Canons line up for what essentially is a FF 20D.
But there are rumors about a 7D to be introduced as a bare bones version of the 5D MkII (which wil then be the 3D?). That would give you what you describe.
I love the rumored stats, but if the price is indeed $3,500 I'll have a hard time letting go of my excellent 40D, which is 1/3 the price. Seems kinda silly for a non-pro to carry a $3,500 camera body around.
What happened to the rumored cheaper 5D replacement?
