Man, you've been busy Bill! Great work, glad you are having fun with your new gear!!
Thanks Jim,
Yes, very busy, Air Shows, Military Bases, Airports, etc, etc, etc.
That Sony A7 was a nice camera to try out for the weekend but the 200-600 was a little too much sometimes and the 5.6 with the heat wasn't good either. Other than that I think it's a pretty good setup. Not sure if all mirrorless cameras look different through the view finder compared to these old mirror cameras but looking thru that Sony was beautiful compared to my canon equipment.
What do C3PO, R2D2, Darth Vader's headgear, George Washington's reading glasses and a 1934 Bentley have in common? They are just a few of the items I'll be photographing tomorrow for a good friend and avid collector. Interesting and challenging assignment, probably the beginning of a number of similar projects.
Still lurking out here most days. Been quite busy, getting ready for a new deck, patio, and roof on the home; over due for some updates. Annie is home from her sophomore year of college and continues to do well; she made dean's list this semester so we are very proud.
Not photographing much that flys, but about 2 weeks ago I did get to shoot something really fun. SAE Baja was held in Oshkosh By Oshkosh Defense. I was asked to do event photography which I love to do. I post the photo's for the students to use in their presentations, team marketing, school news letters, share with family, etc. It's a way to give back to the students and have fun doing so.
In the competition the 76 teams that competed had to do due oral presentations, pulling/braking events, repair cars as they broke (or finish them as some teams weren't ready when they left home), and run all sorts of obstacle course, and finish the last day with a 4 hour endurance event. The "cars" are student designed 4 wheel drive dune buggies with a stock Kohler engine that they can't modify and most have a CVT transmission similar to ATV's/Side by sides except one team does have their CVT electronically controlled so it can also be driven like an 8spd manual! Cool stuff.
Here is a sample of photos:
If you all enjoy I will share a bit more tomorrow. Captured a lot of different unique events in the 4 day competition; much different and more dynamic than an Air Show in some ways.
Rob, congrats on the Nikon 800 PF, it will be a great lens for airshows for some closeup shots.
We came back from Portugal on Sunday, and I went to see the Blue Angels rehearsal yesterday at the Naval Academy, and will go to Long Island on Saturday to watch another show that features the F-35B, I have never seen the B version before. Lots of pictures to work on.
Dan, looks like you had a cool assignment. I would have been fighting my ADHD with my desire to watch vs capture. Great job and I am sure those kids are loving your results. I would think the welder was a critical skill in those events. I congratulate and thank evryone helping kids through their thirst for knowledge and improvement.
