Yes just amazing Douglas!
We had a partial "flyover" here last week for a Ceremony at Arlington that brought some A-10's at very low altitude circle here and head back into DC.
I heard them coming as my drinking glass started to vibrate! What a sight!.
Fine work!
Dan
One of Douglas' beautiful Blues shots is on The Blue Angels Tribute page on Facebook! I should have stayed Douglas, you made that drab light incredible!
The majority of those images are with the RF100-500. I sold the EF 200-400/1.4 a couple of years ago and I haven't gotten my second RF600/4 yet.
When Canon markets a cameral with a 20 mp sensor that can shoot clear shots at 1 million ISO, I could probably use the 100-500 for those dark field sports I shoot.
I got one of the same jet going in the opposite direction at the Wings over North Georgia airshow in 2020. Can't remember the details on that craft.
Terribly overcast that day and I was glad to be able to get the shots I did.
Your work is amazing!
Take care,
Brian
Thank you very much Brian! Great shot you got there. This jet is the F-16 Viper Demo Team. They will perform in Augusta, GA on May 13-14. You may check it out again.
I saw this paint scheme for the first time last year at Oceana. This year the pilot is Capt. Aimee Fiedler. I think she flew last year too.
I got a few shots of the F-16 going "your direction" too. These are from last year at Oceana. For some reason I like last year's shots of the F-16 better. It could be that I got a bit rusty after not shooting planes for six months. The Barksdale show was my first one after the Oceana show in Sept last year.
You're right, had that with the EF600 and 800, but when they are the right tool, they are superb! Back in the EF days I had five bodies and I equipped each of them with a different lens. All I had to do was grab the configuration I needed. Once Canon releases the R5 II and the R1, I'll be close to that set up again, probably in the next year I would guess. When Alliance was in its heyday I thought about configuring a custom golf cart or Gator with a camera/lens rack so they'd be secure and not bouncing around. Guess that ship has sailed.............Show more →
Jim, last year I saw a guy's setup at Conowingo Dam shooting bald eagles. It took him an hour and half to set it up. He had a setup is like this anti-aircraft gun, he just sat there and rotated in any direction.

Thank you Dan! I have an aviation photographer friend from Delaware who goes to shoot the A-10s practicing live fire somewhere in New Jersey. He gave me the name of the range but I forgot. Would love to hear the "brrrt" sound!

Thank you Jim! The lighting around the time the Blues performed on Sunday was horrible. I was surprised they didn't cancel their show. I felt some raindrops right before they took off. I played with the "dehaze" slider in Lightroom very aggressively to show the clouds, much much more aggressively than I have ever been. Next time when I see the Blues it will be at the Naval Academy in May, only see them flying, not on the ground.
When I saw that cloud bank rolling in I decided that my old airframe was telling me , "Been there, done that....." and I beat the traffic. You handled mediocre light magnificently!

Douglas...there is a "secret" road that passes by Aberdeen Proving Grounds military base. It is used for armour training, tanks and such, AND A10 target practice. It is off RT1 North heading to Dublin, MD and Conowingo.
Yes that sound is a great relief to an "engaged: soldier. They had what we called "chain guns" (25mm gattling guns)on Hueys and the Air Force's "Puff The Magic Dragon C47's)AC30/AC130 Gunships.
Not as modern as the A10's and others but the sound was similiar!

The Base in Idaho had a live fire range as well, or did a while back.

Yeah Bill, I should tell Douglas that my last actual view was in 2009 before I retired! But it was a nice one....visually and autophonically(clear hearing)!! If "driver" was coming in from the ENE you could not hear the engines until an "over-the-shoulder glance"...Conowingo Dam was roaring.
RD
Nice shot Jay, and some sun to boot.
Hail yesterday, snow for about an hour this morning now partly sunny out.
Everythings gonna be nice and green this year that's for sure.

Thanks for the info, Dan! Since you mentioned Conowingo Dam, I was there last Friday and yesterday for a few hours, not tons of activities yet. Here are some of the shots.
Big day, $12M in Fracking equipment rolled out of the yard in Fort Worth this afternoon, headed to The Permian Basin to go to work. Opec announced a million barrel a day rollback yesterday and well, you know what our administration thinks of energy independence, all good news for this operation. I did the first photo shoot and we went to Hurtado's in Fort Worth to celebrate............
