Hi Dan,
The way we are behaving currently, they won't have to fire a shot. We are gleefully dismantling the greatest country ever and at some point our adversaries will just walk in and take it while we are busy arguing about equality and whether boys are boys and girls are girls, you know, the really significant stuff that involves 3% of the world population and 100% of our government's time.
On a brighter and more hopeful note, I captured the retirement ceremony for Lt. Colonel Jeremy Boyd today, much of it with tears welling up in my eyes. The culmination of a quarter of a century of service to our country, a laundry list of accomplishments, commendations, and heroism, our friend Jeremy is the real deal. Candidly, as the ceremony progressed, it summarized what I already knew in my heart, Jeremy Boyd is one of those very rare individuals that strive for excellence in everything that they do, in life, education, being a marriage partner, parenting, creative avenues, military and civilian career paths, all encapsulated in a Faith that is unwavering and as strong as The Word of God itself.
When I left Jeremy early this afternoon I was gripped with two emotions, one was gratitude that The Good Lord would put someone of Jeremy's caliber in my life and make him one of my closest friends, the other was introspection and seriously wishing that I could rewind my life and have a do over so that I might, in some small measure match the steadfast character of the man that we honored today.

Dan, Jim beat me to it in his post above. The Chinese CCP doesn't have to do a thing. Our education establishments has been doing a mighty good job turning the next generation into little commies. The Chinese are pushing their kids to learn math and science, and here the focus is on LGBTQXYZ...Hey, at least our F-22s can shoot their balloons!
F-22 from Saturday at Barksdale, it flew twice, I remember the morning show gave me better light. Jim, I didn't find one F-22 shot I like from Sunday, the sky was just dreadful, unless I make B&W version. I was disappointed we didn't see vapor on both days.
Yeah, even your "disappointing" images are incredible Douglas! The sky was a bit generic, but it was a great weekend all in all and the highlight was spending time with you, thanks for all you did to make that possible.

I hope you were able to give him one of those little F16 tokens Jim

OK, back to regular programing. Here are the BA stuff. I will spare you the formation shots.
All were taken last Saturday at Barksdale, except the first one and the last one. The first one was of Lt. Amanda Lee after the show on Sunday. Her face was really that red, I guess from pulling the "Gs"? The last one was the only time I saw a hint of vapor in two days. I might have missed others though.
The second shot was a bit "off" in that the jets almost passed each other already but I like how the number "5" and the number "6" glued together in this shot. For those opposing passes I shoot at 30 FPS, as long as I can keep the jets in the frame it's almost guaranteed that I will get a shot.

Very fortunate to have met Jeremy a couple times, with Jim and the last time even had a great dinner together.
A genuine good guy and all the above.

Great images Douglas, they look great.

This should be my last post from Barksdale. The BONE is really a beautiful bad a$$ plane. I won't have any plane pictures to post until the show at Langley in early May. It's supposed to be a good show too.

Amen brother! But there will be a few "locked and loaded". They are called the "shadow warriors".
Stay safe
Dan
Yes, we were battening down the hatches based on the forecast. The sky got pretty dark, we had a few rumbles and five minutes of rain, the sun is out now. Ya never know.............

Has anybody been to Starbase Texas? I might go to check it out. I was wondering what focal lengths did you use, especially from South Padre Island?
Thanks
Sorry no one responded. I haven't heard of any visits to Starbase Texas. Douglas in this group has taken some photos at Kennedy/Cape Canaveral. You might PM him (super nice guy) and he could tell you what he used. I suspect the distances will be similar. He also found some links for camera settings.
The majority of those images are with the RF100-500. I sold the EF 200-400/1.4 a couple of years ago and I haven't gotten my second RF600/4 yet.
Jim, as we discussed at the dinner, if I didn't shoot birds, I would not buy the 600 F4. But since I bought it, I slap the 1.4TC on it most of the time. I was very surprised how much I liked it for the single jet shots at airshows. I can get amazing closeup shots without resulting to cropping much or any cropping at all. But modern day's high resolution cameras negate that to a degree.
At 840mm sometimes the planes do get too close and I end up with many shots like this. They can overfill the frame in a mini second. This one is not cropped.
You're right, had that with the EF600 and 800, but when they are the right tool, they are superb! Back in the EF days I had five bodies and I equipped each of them with a different lens. All I had to do was grab the configuration I needed. Once Canon releases the R5 II and the R1, I'll be close to that set up again, probably in the next year I would guess. When Alliance was in its heyday I thought about configuring a custom golf cart or Gator with a camera/lens rack so they'd be secure and not bouncing around. Guess that ship has sailed..........
