Camera pix questions for you Pro's out there...
.
Do you see much of a difference from...
DIGIC 8.
DIGIC X.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, Eye Control AF.
.
Also, with the camera bodies that have in body image stabilization, does that work with with an IS Lens ?
.
I have the 7D, 90D & 6D2, just looking at the next step.

So it looks like Digic 8 was 2018, and Digic X was 2020. Your 6DII and my 5DIV are from 2018, so I assume they are Digic 8. My R5 is Digic X. In my opinion, the R5 blows the 5DIV away shooting action stills (I don't do any video). Not sure how much of that is Digic X, but I bet it's a lot, particularly for AF.
These mirrorless cameras are revolutionary compared to the DSLRs - as far as the cameras themselves go, the leap from Digic 8 to Digic X is probably bigger than any of the prior versions.
The AF of the R5 with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is much better than my 5DIV. It gives you so many options, including eye detection. There's something like 1,000 AF zones across the viewfinder. It's amazing watching the eye detection system follow the subject across the viewfinder, even if you are not panning.
I haven't used the Eye Control AF. Usually Jim would be a good source, but this time he is not shooting the R3 flagship.
The in-body IS does work with an EF lens with IS. I believe you get better IS than the EF lens on a DSLR, but not as good as you would get with an RF version of the same lens.
I don't see any drawback switching to mirrorless, even if you have to keep using EF lenses with the adapter. They work great. I have yet to buy an RF lens.
Thanks for the feedback Mark-
This is what I see...
7D is DIGIC 4, crop sensor.
6D2 is DIGIC 7, full frame sensor.
90D is DIGIC 8, crop sensor.
.
5DIV is DIGIC 6+, full frame sensor.
.
The DIGIC X looks to be pretty good and more megapixs with the R5.
Was looking at the 5DSR but got the 6D2 instead.
Will probably work with this for now and go mirrorless next year.
.
I'm still baffled at how many people on the buy/sell board here are selling R3/R5/R6, etc, etc and a lot of them are brand new never opened.
.
Cheers buddy-
For the work I do photographing the private aircraft, I use the Canon 11-24 and it is a GREAT lens. What still continues to bother me with it is that there is no filter whatsoever I can put on the lens. I'm a bull in a china closet, I need to protect everything I own. !! I use the Canon 24-70 f2.8 II for my exterior shots, I also have the older version of that lens, as a back-up. I also own the Canon 70-200 f2.8 II, a 2x and a 1.4x converter, and a Canon 17-40, and an 85 1.8.
I hardly EVER use the 85 1.8, but it is a heck of a lens.

Bill,
I admit I have a 14mm, 17mm TSE, and 18-300. I use my Canon 24-70 f2.8 II the most. It is the sharpest zoom I have ever used. I have NOT used the 10-22 and probably will not at $2300 bucks.
That is over 75%% of my retirement monthly income and , althought I worked for the govt for 46 years in total...they are not giving "free money" to seniors, retirees or those worked all their life for some confortable retirement!
Merry Christmas...your "CC" were a HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was in Minneapolis this week photographing a G-V and this sports charter jet was across the way. Some team was in town to play the Minnesota Wild NHL hockey team.

Ya, the Canon 11-24 looks nice but at $2999 new and $1999 used...Sucker must be a nice lens.
The 10-22 is a $500 lens and nothing sharp at all but I love the pics for the most part.

I wonder how this would be...Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens
If I shot with this at 11mm and compared it to the Canon 11-24 would they be the same or would the fish eye lens still look fishy ?

100% accurate analysis, good job Mark! I shot the R3 for three days/30,000+ exposures and my impression was that it was a flawless camera and system. As you know, I passed, but only due to the 24MP sensor. I had seen reviews where people had difficulty with the eye following focus system but I found it to be way to program and very intuitive. Every once in a while the R5/R5C focus following goes haywire and I miss a couple of fast moving shots, but it's usually because I forgot to change the focus parameter to people/animals or none for the subject that I was currently shooting. Think back a camera generation or two, the current spate of bodies is so much more complex and there are so many more menu options. I think a lot of what people complain about is operators error and or not understanding all the options at hand. I'll buy whatever flagship model Canon releases just because that's kind of how I roll, but truthfully, if they never produced anything beyond the R5/R5C, I'd be more than satisfied and I don't recall ever feeling like that prior to today.
