My client wants me to fly POV through the hangar at regular intervals, and through 777/MD10 fuselages. I figured that I had better get up to speed with this. Actually I don't know that I can't do all of this with my Mavic 3 pro, but the shielded props and indestructibility of the Avata are big plusses.
I'm headed to the hangars to make sure they are winterized, it's dropping to 8 degrees in the next 24 hours, with gusts to 55 forecast, HoHoHo......................
Fly thru the fuselage, ...Keep that straight and steady Jim, which I'm sure you will, sounds neat.
A camera on a track going thru the plane would be kool too.
Been about 22 in the mornings here and cold...Love it when the sun comes out and burns the fog away.

Dear Dan God Bless you! My nephew”s Blackhawk group is losing pilots and crew at an alarming rate for the reasons that most of us recognize. They just gave him a 60% hike in pay so that he would stay. At a time when we face heightened risk from around the world we are hemorrhaging our best and bravest, but some will still tell us, “it’s just fine” I respectfully disagree!
Thank you for all guys like you and Ray have done to stem the tide, it must be especially disheartening after what you guys have endured. But heck we just gave 55 billion to Africa to launder so it’s all hunky dory…………...Show more →
Your nephew's group still flies over my house on their way to Site6( ). I usually get a "waggle and a wave".
But my point is that at breakfast on Saturday with the "Old Guard" at Arlington NatlCemetery, I listened to some extremely disturbing news, from both officers, nco's and enlisted, that the morale within the ranks is bad!
Yes MANY are not re-enlisting, officers are leaving after their term and the NCO's are just beside themselves at the crap coming out of the WH and Congress via the Pentagon.
Like I told you on the phone, flying FPV is like a totally immersive video game. Sit down or lean against something solid before you don the goggles because you’ll probably get a bit wobbly. Start out in a big open area with no distractions. It won’t be long before bravado kicks in and you think you are invincible. I’ll share some of my early FPV moments here for others to enjoy. At our age vertigo is a real thing. These things are FAST!
I've spent the afternoon making sure that my RAID Arrays are exact duplicates of each other. B&H has a pretty good deal on 18TB 7200rpm Iron Wolf Hard Drives so I ordered a few more. I've got enough to stock an additional Thunderbay 8 after the first of the year. Those enclosures have gone up a couple hundred bucks in the last year, but what hasn't?

That water touch n go really cracks me up! I'd love to have a video of you during that flight. I'm reading as many reviews as I can on the Avata, it seems like it has a number of available safe guards that the true FPV does not. Might be a good unit to cut my teeth on.
Holy horse hockey, the last time I had vertigo was back in the day, newly minted IFR, climbing out after TO from KTLH, indefinite ceiling, sky obscured, fog bank at virtual ground level. All instruments set, all data OK, taxi in position, after final take off check, and launched. at about 100' AGL on cross-check, I felt exactly what I did watching one of your high speed turns. DAMN. Where's my shoulder harness Almost sick to my stomach. . Excellent video, Brew.
I had a feed hooked up to my Ipad so my friend could see what I saw. The splash touch and go surprised both of us. I brought it in, dryed the camera off and went back to having fun. The original FPV is like a brick. The big square battery is the bulk of the weight. I have never had the nerve to go beyond Sport mode to full manual. The new one looks like a big improvement over the original. They are fun to fly. Sorry about giving you vertigo Anthony but I did warn you🤪🤪
copy that, Brew. Not a problem at all, Sir. I flew out of the vertigo by trusting my instruments, not my head. VFR on top into a beautiful Florida sunrise. You did a helluva good job pulling that drone outta the water, Sir.
Sheer reflexes! Otherwise It would have $1000 in the drink. Truth is the memory card is more valuable at moments like these. These flying cameras are an addiction. In the right hands like Jim’s it can be quite lucrative. Today I delivered a couple large metal prints to a local structural engineering firm to spruce up their new offices. One was a 5 foot panorama of the Vancouver waterfront and it was rewarding to see them pointing out all the development they had been or are currently involved in. This pano was a 5-6 image stitch from the Inspire 2 with an Olympus lens.
Mike,
Love the drone video and your You Tube videos as well, especially the Montana one and the ole wigwam burner, not many of those left on the west coast. My Uncle lived up in Eureka Montana and the Yakk valley stories he told, I miss. A good book to read is, Winter Notes from Montana by Rick Bass, mostly of the Yakk Valley. I too was impressed by your touch and go, bet you felt lucky after that one and and if your buddy saw that you were braggin I bet. My friend just bought the same drone Jim is getting and he has an earlier model with fpv headset and hand controller. I think unlocked/unrestricted is does close to 90 mph. If you ever get my way and wanna see a fab shop, let me know. Have fun with your welder.

I am glad you poosted this Jim!
I bought a LaCie(for Windows) RAID 2BigBox 3 weeks ago and had to be formatted for Windows. Macs it is ok.
It destoryed my computer! IT completely removed the partioning of the drives and substituted the partions with some "gobbledeegook" and destroyed Adobe CC!
LaCie@Seagate tried 3x's to fix it and then hung up on me when they could not! I sent it right back and got my money back.
Needless to say..Santa has a HUGE lump of coal for their stocking!!! Oh that's right coal is the forbidden fruit now! How about a big "cow pie" from my great "Texas Longhorns" at my neighbor's?
The SanDisk 16TB Enterprise-Thunderbolt3 arrays you told me about in the summer are just purring along fine! THANK god!
RD
Thanks Bill.
I’d love to stop by and get acquainted. My love for NW Montana is deep. Born in Kalispell, raised in Libby, with many happy memories and friends in the Yaak Country. My first construction job was at Fortine doing the railroad relocate so I rented a room above the Stockmans Bar in Eureka. This was a part of the Libby Dam Project which kept me busy in NW Montana for four years before wandering off to Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, and other states for the next forty years. NW Montana will always be home in my heart but I know deep down I couldn’t take the long hard winters anymore. We try to spend a week or two there every summer.
They claim 97 mph in full manual on the original FPV’s but in Sport mode it tops 60 mph which is way beyond my reflex capability. The new one still uses the same goggles as mine but appears to be much more refined. I’m tempted but think the new Mavic 3 Classic is my next tool investment. At my age I should be thinning the fleet not adding to it but… I still get adrenaline every time I launch one.
Today’s projects include welding up an aluminum mount for the stepper motor on the X axis on the mill and putting a new belt on the lathe IF the Warden doesn’t redirect me.
I’m shooting one of two residential models that need to be completed before January 1st and have an outdoor charity event on Friday, which is going to be very interesting given the forecast. That should do it for 2022, and I’ll be happy to put it in the rear view mirror.

Have fun and you know those wardens tasks.
We just got another lathe and mill two weeks ago and an automated rolling machine from Italy.
Rolls up to 1/2 "-
Sweet. Your toys are bigger than mine. 7 X 16 Mini-lathe and Seig X2 mini-mill. Years ago I visited Aker Gulf Marine near Corpus and they were cold rolling 4” for the oil jackets. Unreal.
