Yup, that was a bad looking landing for sure. Now the question will be, did the test pilot botch it, or did the jet misbehave. Either way, it won't buff out..................
Jim,
A friend of mine was sitting at Walmart across the runway when the F-35 bounced. He said a bunch of brown-looking smoke came out of the jet shortly before it started to sink toward the runway. It was enough that he grabbed his camera and started shooting.
It will be interesting to see what he was able to capture.
He said the pilot was up walking around when he made it to the west side.

This may be out of bounds on this board, and if so, I apologize. But I figured most people following this thread would appreciate this. The NY ANG 105th Airlift Wing out of Stewart Airport in Newburgh NY is a C-17 wing. Over the past week, they conducted a special training mission in conjunction with several other units focused on flying in contested airspace. I am not sure where this was flown, but it was either up in the Adirondacks, Vermont or New Hampshire (or all of them). But it is about as much seat-of-the-pants flying you can do in a 400,000lb+ airplane. Click on the image at the top of the story for the video.
I shot two charitable events this week, the second one yesterday, both benefiting the homeless population in Collin County. The first one was a movie premiere for "5000 Blankets" a film depicting the efforts and struggles of a DFW area Mom and young son whose husband/father suffered from bouts with mental illness, spending considerable time living on the streets. If it comes to your town, see it, great family film offering a perspective on homelessness and mental illness in a way adults and teen children can relate to. The women and her son were present at the premiere, touching to say the least.
Yesterday's event, Holidays of Hope 2022, was held at a homeless shelter in Collin County, one of the most affluent areas in the country. Collin County, in spite of it's economic status, has a population with considerable need. Funny, the people were very similar to our downtown Dallas homeless ministry, 10% were whacked out, a few were very angry, the rest were very dear men, women and children who were kind and grateful for anything that could be done for them. A young guy who has a huge RV outfitted to cut and style hair was onsite, "Smokey Joe's BBQ" had their food truck running at capacity, "Olive Garden" supplied hot meals, salads and breadsticks for 500 people. I love doing these events, helps keep one's focus on the right things.
I am currently reading a previous publication (1974, William Manchester, 'The Glory and the Dream') and I am at the beginning, 1932. Imagine the United States with nearly half the population indigent and or homeless. Communism was discussed in the open by many as it was not considered evil and the Russians were not showing evidence of the depression in the US. Thankfully, the United States and the Constitution survived.
In my high school history class, we read two books by Frederick Lewis Allen. Only Yesterday was about the 1920's. Since Yesterday covers 1929-1939.
These are first-person. Only Yesterday was published in 1931, Since Yesterday was published in 1940. Pros and cons to that, since they probably lack the perspective that a couple decades of hindsight brings. But still good reads.
JIII has asked me for quite some time if he could come on a photo shoot and help me. Friday I had a rush exterior and it was a perfect opportunity, albeit a bit frigid. He dove right in, even insisted on bringing his own camera.............these artists ya know........

I have heard 'good help is hard to find' Jim. Better make sure you benefit package and work schedule keeps him happy!
Well, I can hear Mike Brewington chuckling.............looks like I'm going to step further out on the limb. My Triple 7 folks need footage that pretty much can only come from an fpv drone so...................

Ray,
I must get this book! I was a History major before "Uncle Sam" grabbed me", studied and read books by Manchester but this escaped me.
I had breakfast with the "OLd Guard" on Saturday before the Wreath Laying ceremony and before the Honor Guard started its 12 hour day.
I can say that the military is NOT in good spirits! For many reasons! As a soldier you do what you are told not what the politicians or media tell you "you should do"!
It is conflicting here in the DC area!
Happy Holidays!
Dan
Dear Dan God Bless you! My nephew”s Blackhawk group is losing pilots and crew at an alarming rate for the reasons that most of us recognize. They just gave him a 60% hike in pay so that he would stay. At a time when we face heightened risk from around the world we are hemorrhaging our best and bravest, but some will still tell us, “it’s just fine” I respectfully disagree!
Thank you for all guys like you and Ray have done to stem the tide, it must be especially disheartening after what you guys have endured. But heck we just gave 55 billion to Africa to launder so it’s all hunky dory…………
