Just got approval on my aircraft insurance, whew! The premium went up 100 bucks which is really kind of amazing given the state of the aviation insurance business. Based upon 50 hours a year, insurance costs me $67 an hour , fuel is about $42 , so the Cub costs around $110 an hour, not including engine reserves which are about $13.To put it in perspective, the T6 insurance was $5,000 way back when, fuel was about $300 an hour. I’ll bet the Texan would run 10K for insurance today.

"Come on man"!
I quote:
"You know, I want to share the progress that we’ve seen and been making to bring down the healthcare costs and strengthen Medicare, which is, for so many seniors, the only thing they can rely upon. And we’ve worked really hard to maintain it. Inflation is not happening in my Adminstration"! Oct 1, 2022".
Jim,
As a senior on a fixed income, my 401K tanked despite the fact that I have 1 of the most conservative portfolios one can have, food, medicine...everything has skyrocketed!!!! My meds are steady because of my retiree plan BUT medicare is just not medicine!!!! The corporate entities are playing us seniors for complete fools!
ENOUGH!!!
Glad your cost were minimal at the least!
Get that "shed" ready brother! Bill, Ray and I are do for a road trip!

My best friend served on the USS New Jersey and was "on station" in Vietnam in the late 1960's. (deleted)
Dan,
If your best friend has photos taken on (or of) the New Jersey during his deployment, you might suggest that he sends a copy of them to the Battleship New Jersey museum. Anything showing the ship during that time will show them how the ship was then as opposed to how the ship was when it was turned over to them.
If your friend hasn't discovered it yet.....
The Battleship New Jersey museum frequently uploads videos on You Tube showing various compartments/areas of the ship, discussing the ships history, the ongoing restoration work being done by the volunteers, etc. Currently the curator is visiting other warships with a group of people associated with warship museums. His last (other ship) videos have been on the Battleship Texas, and the Battleship Missouri either showing restoration work, or showing compartments in the Missouri that have been "restored" but either haven't yet been restored on the New Jersey, or didn't exist on the New Jersey.

Thanks Ken!
Jim goes to every reunion, every year!
I am not sure what photos he does or doesn't have but I will ask him.
But I do have some he sent me way back.
I will find them and post them.
Thanks for the links Ken. I will forward this to Jim also!
Dan
Ken I just sent Jim an email about pictures. He lives in Florida on the East coast(N. Smyrna Beach).
As soon as I hear from him I will post anything he sends!
Thanks!
Dan

Thanks for looking!
My family(Sibley, Ft Dodge, DesMoines) had a cabin on Lake Vermilion for a very long time. My father worked at a fishing resort there while growing up during the summers. These images take me back there Dan!
Dan,
My folks had a cabin in Norther WI, it was beautiful up there. But times change; they pasted on and I just couldn't manage the 400 miles/8hr drive each way to take care of the place and use it as it deserved to be used. Still camp and go north when I can. In the near future I hope to get a fishing boat again and at least get back to fishing the northern lakes of WI and MN.
Take care,
Dan

Know what you mean Dan!
Even when living in Iowa it was a huge trek. When we moved to Maryland(1957) it became even more of a trek!
My father did not like to stop the car! So it was drive straight through and head North through Wisconsin once past Chicago.
When I last visited in 1980's, it had vastly changed then!
But it is an area I loved!
Catch those fish Dan!
