Looks like I'll be heading up to shoot Arkanstol for American Legend Aircraft again this year. They have revamped the course from 2021 due to a number of accidents. Visually the site has some very pretty backdrops as it's nestled in the Arkansa hills along a nice river. Candidly, I am amazed that the aviation insurance industry hasn't either shut these STOL competitions down, of come up with an exorbitant additional rider to cover the activities. All the events are timed, flying on the ragged edge competitions so the odds of something going south in a hurry are pretty high.
Dan, this farm is the locally famous turkey farm in Fulton, off Rt 216/Maple Lawn. I was chatting with an older gentleman this morning who was also waiting for sunrise at the farm. It was just too cloudy. The gentleman said the farm was finally sold to a developer several years ago after years of trying to get county permits. The farmer became multi multi millionaire. This was not the only piece of the farm they sold. That location commands very high price for lots. Near where I live, more and more farms are being sold to developers. The open space to view sunrise and sunset is going away fast!...Show more →
So, Maryland has the "Turkey Farm" while Texas has...er, had the "Chicken Ranch". I'm sure there is "Nuthin' dirty goin on"!

Thanks Douglas!
I know now.
I know all about development Douglas. When I returned from my military service, the developers had begun to destroy it. A small piece at a time.
Gaithersburg was a small agri-town where everybody knew everybody. 1 block from the center of town was cattle and corn.
Now it is a megaopolis of tech, malls, industry and congestion. The town center has been destroyed!
They call/called it "progress! I called it the apocalypse now!!!!
Thanks for the info.
Dan

We need the Mustang Air to Air Phenom so we can shuttle around and shoot more together! That black Global Express would work nicely too!

. In all seriousness, for many years we have been buying fresh "organic" turkeys from this farm for Thanksgiving. The line on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is crazy. I can't say for sure they taste better than the turkeys sold at supermarkets even though they cost 200% more. But it feels good helping local farmers.

For those who are not familiar, the "Texas Chicken Ranch" is a legend in Texas. They even made a play and movie of the demise of the bordello.
Hey Guys, I have been researching building a new website, not nearly as easy as I imagined. Truthfully, my time is much better spent knocking on doors and shooting assignments, but I don't particularly want to drop six or seven grand on a website at the moment either. While I'm deciding the best course of action, I've been spiffing up my instagram pages to cover the gap temporarily. I've never been too concerned about followers and "likes", they either happen or they don't and I'm not sure they have a lot of value for the kind of work I do. If you have a few minutes, stop by @Sharpshooter_777 and let me know what you think.

"...I swear, I thought turkeys could fly!" , I thought so too but the one's around here don't. There are more turkeys by town then out in the woods anymore. Had to stop to let them cross the road a few weeks ago...Crazy...And they all walk, not fly...And walk slow.
Long ago, in a galaxy far way.......... I spent a day with the the videographer for the Thunderbirds. I was researching video stabilizing rigs and the videographer had a version of a Varizoom product that looked interesting. I got together with the Varizoom folks in California and configured what you see here. Varizoom shipped it and a couple of weeks after it arrived, the world shut down and I never got to put it to work. I woke up in the middle of the night last night thinking about the Varizoom Rig and how it might work with my R5c and the XF605, so I got it out and configured it this afternoon. I think it's going to be a very cool tool, it'll go to work at Alliance and then the following weekend at Wings Over Houston.

Yup, the monitor on the camera (don't really think I would use it, but we'll see) and the Atomos NINJA V+. I think the set up will be a game changer for a number of video scenarios. The R5c is going to be perfect on it as well, just need to readjust the balance.
