One of the drawbacks to state of the art gear these days is that the purchaser gets to be a beta tester. My new Apple Studio display is wonderful, when it's not flashing to black and shutting down my MacBook Pro and all the associated hard drives. Several hours going through the motions with Apple Care made me realize just how little I enjoy being a "beta tester" these days. Sooo, amidst pleas from Apple to just hang with them as "we work out" this (known) issue, it's all going back and they can work it out with someone who has the time and inclination.
The truth of the matter is, I'd buy a couple of loaded 27" iMacs, one for home and one for HQ, to replace the ones that I have. Problem is, they don't make those anymore and the iMacs that they do offer are throttled back in RAM and SSD storage so they don't cross over into the more expensive product's territory.

I don't use Macs but I did just finish ordering a new "high octane" computer. Boy did it cost me a bunch! Puget Systems custom builds to my specs. They are top shelf!
I always go for as much RAM as possible and "off load" my photos to a SanDisk Enterprise RAID Array(Thanks Jim!!!).
You have added " Cinematographer" to you flying license endorsements Jim!
Say "Heh" to my buddy!

Let me know how you like it when you fire it up! I took everything back to the Apple store this morning and told them how frustrated I was. My plan was to park a Studio Monitor here at home and one at HQ, then I could just plug in my (arriving shortly) 16" MacBook Pro wherever I happened to be and I'd have the same system, same software plug ins, same/same wherever I am. I suppose that, once they figure out what this flickering thingy is, I can still do that.
The 16" MBP is maxed out with Cores/RAM and a 4TB SSD, so it should scream. Hopefully it will render 4K/8K videos at speeds ten to twenty times faster than what I'm using currently, and you know what they say about time............
I just picked up four new aircraft broker/management clients this morning and what really interested them was my ability to provide high quality video combined with still imagery. Most of the stuff those guys use in their ads is bland/run of the mill still images. These four have an interest in taking their businesses to a new level, and I'm excited to help them with that.

Boeing E4B arriving at RAF Fairford for the static a very rare appearance
Great shot of the spitfire Jan-Arie. Glad you are back to shooting and your work is better than ever!
Back after they built the E4B (added the antenna dome on the dorsal) in the '70s, an E4B did a couple of flybys at Ellington near Houston, TX. I was on the ramp when it performed a couple of flybys, then circled in the landing pattern and appeared to be landing with the gear down. It did a touch and go, then departed the airspace. The transient alert guy was parked by us. Back in those days, an aircraft required pre-approval to land at Ellington. When the transient guy saw the gear down, he called the tower to ask about it landing and where to park it. They replied "What aircraft, we don't have an aircraft in the pattern.". Apparently, back then, E4B locations were not to be advertised.

Heh Jim!
I know you are an Apple man so Puget is strictly a PC developer. Desktop-Servers only.
You can pick and choose what components, RAM, HD's, case, powers supply, GPU cards from the best of the best.
They build it, thoroughly test it, price your "build" at each component step, ship it and provide you with a complete binder with all the specs, heat tests and performance against their targets points needed. Life time Tech Support and it is fantastic! And are there if a problem arises. They screen share if problem warrants it.
Take a look! But you being an Apple man. Probably wont fit your needs.
I have 4 of them and love them all. Just it seems I am running out of RAM and graphics acceleration as photo software advances.
Good Luck!
Dan
Or call my buddy Kelt at Falcon Northwest Computers...They will set ya up big time
.
I took the liberty of pre building you a system Jim, I'll see if we can triple your warranty
Thanks guys! Those look like great systems, I just don't think that I could ever go back to Windows. Apple has it's shortcomings, and Lord knows I don't agree with a lot of their social agenda, but their systems are groundbreaking and intuitive. I've been a Mac user for 25 years, it was an easy switch, Microsoft would have to create something really groundbreaking to entice me to come back.

I only use Windows because I am very familiar with it Jim!
Suzanne's laptop is a MacPro. But we dont use t for anything photographic or business.

Good Luck!

Yeah the photo makes you think that, but there was still plenty of room between the fence and the runway about 50 meters I guess but I like the effect..

Thanks Ray it's still very hard skipped a lot of stuff because I was so tired but the results are pretty good.
at first i thought the results were so so but Jim also told us way back that you have to be rested before you judge what you have shot. But if you revisit them there are appearing more and more good shots.
