Thank you Bill! I got more perfect opposing pass shots but the smoke was just too much, I didn't even bother to edit those. Two things I personally am not in favor of at those shows are the amount of smoke they use, and the loud music they play. I would rather listen to the sound of the jet engines. What can sound more sexy than fighter jet engines?
The Canon R7 sounds like a terrific camera for airshows and birding! I haven't read the reviews so I don't know the performance of the view finder. The higher end bodies have no blackout or lag, it's like watching video when I shoot. The only Canon gear I have now is the Canon 24-105mm F4 coffee mug the wife bought me for Christmas.
Very surprised B&H sold grey market Canons......Show more →
Ya, I would rather listen to the jets as well and maybe music really low. You can keep the mug, .
Ya, even there new stuff is grey right now.

My rant for today...Got the 90D week before last, pretty nice camera. Went to register and possibly join CPS again and found out camera is a gray market camera...Boooo. Gave B&H an earful and like usual they said send it back for a full refund.....
Bill, did CPS not let you register it for points, or were you concerned about warranty service?

Took 2 people and 45 minutes to figure out is was a gray market camera and no they won't touch it, seems quite a few won't. I didn't ask about CPS tho. If they won't warrant it I doubt they'd clean or service it. They will do 15% off for my 7D on a new purchase and 20% of on the 1D/Pro Bodies. Can't use it on new models unless it came out six months or longer tho.
Been looking at lens here on the buy/sell forum and I'm surprised how many RF lens there are for sale. Makes me wonder if they aren't that good.
If I use my 70-200 2.8L (with adapter for my old lens) vrs a new RF 70-200 2.8L if I'd notice much of a difference.

Oh! Business trip? That means airfare and hotel are paid!
I decided not to take that "business trip", as crazy as I am for airshows, it's just too far for me, unless they fly the F-14 and the SR-71

The Canon 800 STM seems to be a great lens when there is enough light. I have yet to photograph an indigo bunting, we do have them around here.
I salvaged more "smoky" files from Sunday's outing. Next show for me will be in Ocean City, Maryland this month, "only" 150 miles away. TB, F-18 Rhino, A-10 and other less interesting (to me anyway) flyers, no new stealth jets.
Just saw "Top Gun". Really enjoyed it, especially as it was on a date with my significant other of over 50 years! This was a movie with no agenda, fowl language and just really enjoyable. Great job!
Missing Man with the hook down to pay tribute to a carrier pilot...if you watch the movie, you know who this is for...
My photo from the George Herbert Walker Bush Memorial train procession at College Station (Texas A&M University).

Yesterday, I left my house at 3:30 to go to Jones Beach in Long Island, NY [...] I had never been to airshow at this location before, 500 miles round trip, $200 gas and tolls, but it was well worth it.

I beg to differ with Aubie. You're not a machine, Douglas, you're a bona fide artist.
I was at Jones Beach too, because we now live just west of NYC and it was only an hour drive. I took both my kids, and four of my 13-year-old son's friends, to the show with me. We'd have been delighted to see you, and I'd have been honored to shake your hand and shoot beside you.
We also had a spare VIP ticket we could have given you; but though the food, shade, space, and comfort were great, the VIP space was set further back and you were better positioned for shooting where you were.
It was insanely hazy, with all the smoke trails hanging around due to near-zero wind. The shots you've shown here are nothing short of stunning, and a real achievement given the conditions. Once I can process some of mine, I'll post them for comparison.
Rodolfo, it would have been my honor to meet you in person at Jones Beach, and thank you for your thoughts of offering the VIP ticket. I was about 40' to the left of the lifeguard tower in the center, facing the water. I set up my beach wagon and chair about 30' from the water on a slightly elevated spot. At times I was still blocked by peoples' heads. I think the show center was actually slightly to the right of the lifeguard tower. By the time I realized this it was too much a hassle to move. If I go again next year, I know where to setup.
Battle Creek, Michigan will have a very good show at the end of June and early July. That one may be doable for me, still 600 miles one way. They will have a twilight & night air show (not military aircraft obviously) that could be interesting. I have never been to one of these. Any suggestions for shooting night time show will be greatly appreciated!

Gave B&H an earful and like usual they said send it back for a full refund so I'm just out a $25 screen protector and no camera. Aside from this I love B&H and have bought from them over the last 20 years or so and will continue to. No one has a USA 90D other than Canons refurbished site and have just one and who knows how many clicks on it. Guess I'm gonna wait and get the R7 coming out in 3 weeks. 2 days after my need, . Looks like a neat camera but I will have to buy a $100 adapter to mount my lens that I currently have. I will miss the built in flash as well. Maybe I'll sell all my gear and buy one camera and 2 lens, be a hell of a lot lighter than what I have now....Show more →
That is not nice B&H! Unlike them.
I have the 90D and enjoy it!
Sorry you had problems Bill!

Which one of you uploaded a pic of a butterfly for a WA picture ?
Had to of been Dan or Douglas I'm guessing. I saw it on the FM front page and looked at it but can't find it now.
