We saw it at Alliance in 2010 , seems like a cool company.
I'll have to check into it. There's one in the hangar at AFW with Matt's Gamebird and Stearman, it's pristine. Chandler and I were brainstorming a dusk shot of it last year but never got around to orchestrating it. I'm hoping that this year's lack of performers will give us some time to play around with things that we otherwise wouldn't have time for.
Yesterday, I left my house at 3:30 to go to Jones Beach in Long Island, NY to see an airshow. The Friday rehearsal was no go due to weather condition, much of the show on Saturday was also called off due to thunderstorm, so the beach was packed on Sunday. I thought I had the best front row seat because I was there so early, but the late arrivals just set up their chairs and umbrellas in front of me.
I had never been to airshow at this location before, 500 miles round trip, $200 gas and tolls, but it was well worth it. I had never heard of the Navy F-35C Lightening II Demonstration Team until a month ago. Their don't even have a website (I searched, but couldn't find any).
I was pleasantly (very) surprised their sent two ships up for the show and even did an opposing pass! Which was totally unexpected. Too bad my opposing pass shot (the last picture) of the two F-35Cs was less than sharp. I don't know when I will get to see this phenomenal team perform again, so I am kicking myself for ruining the opposing pass shot. I used the 600mm+1.4 TC on one camera and the 200-600mm on another. A lot of the F-35C shots were at 840mm, with no cropping or very minimal cropping, unbelievable closeups. But focal length greed has its own downside, the first picture is a good example of that.
It was very hazy, and back-lit most of the time, very difficult condition to shoot. The F-22 and the Blue Angels performed too but I haven't had time to edit those.
Hi all. Glad to see folks are doing well. Haven't been around much, looks like a month since my last post. Thought it was even longer. Work has been crazy and I just don't seem to be able to get to everything I want to do/need to do.
Still a few minutes left this Memorial Day. For about 10 years now there has been a moving display on Boston Common on Memorial Day weekend. Over 37,000 flags, representing all Massachusetts residents that lost their lives in service to our country since the Revolutionary War.

Thank you gentlemen!
I got more to come! Haven't had time to cull/edited all the pictures. Can't believe I took 5500 pictures. With the fast FPS, it happens when I spray and pray. But for a lot of the shots I could have done a lot more shooting in burst.
I think I found the excuse for the less than sharp picture of the two F-35Cs' opposing pass. First of all, I wasn't expecting an opposing pass from them at all, second, I was focusing on the jet flying from left to right, but it ended up behind the other jet at the passing. That's why I am trying to at least have high confidence which jet will be in the front at the opposing passes with both the BA the the TB, my little project is on-going.
I just found out that the Navy's F-35C demo team will perform in Memphis in June, in Battle Creek, Michigan and Oshkosh in July, not exactly a day trip kind of thingy for me. What a thrill that was to watch this new team! They made the F-22 demo that flew after them look like a child play.
A lot of sharpening was applied to salvage this one
I have a question - looks like you go to shows by yourself, and a couple of pages back you mentioned almost missing a shot when you went to the Portajohn. What do you do with your gear?
I used to just drag it all into the john with me, but that was when my longest lens was a 100-400. Now I have the 500L which probably wouldn't fit in there with me.
Do you just ask folks around you to watch your stuff?

Thank you J-A!
Last batch of the Jones Beach show. By the time the F-22 and the Blue Angels performed, the humidity had decreased quite a bit, so not much vapes like the F-35C. It was also very smoky again when the Blue Angels flew. I wish they would use less smoke.
Next show for me will be Ocean City, Maryland on June 10. The lineup has no stealth jet.

Thank you Mark! Love the pictures of the sea of flags you posted!
For the show at Dover AFB, I called a friend the night before to see if he would want to go, he is an iPhone photographer. He watched my other camera when I took one of the cameras with me to go to the Portajohn.
For the show at Johns Beach on Sunday, I called an elementary school class mate on Saturday night to see if he would want to go, he lives in Brooklyn. We met up at the beach. He watched my stuff when I went to the bathroom before the show started. After the show we parted ways because we parked at different lots. I decided to use the Portajohn before my 4-hour trip back to Maryland. I put my beach chair on the top of the camera bag in a beach wagon, and left everything outside the Portajohn when I was inside for the one minute. The camers and lenses in the bag were worth almost $28,000. I was crazy to take that chance.
If I go to the shows by myself, I hang the cameras/lenses on my shoulder when I go get food or use bathroom. I need to be very careful in the Portajohns so the lenses don't bang on the wall too hard.
My rant for today...Got the 90D week before last, pretty nice camera. Went to register and possibly join CPS again and found out camera is a gray market camera...Boooo. Gave B&H an earful and like usual they said send it back for a full refund so I'm just out a $25 screen protector and no camera. Aside from this I love B&H and have bought from them over the last 20 years or so and will continue to. No one has a USA 90D other than Canons refurbished site and have just one and who knows how many clicks on it. Guess I'm gonna wait and get the R7 coming out in 3 weeks. 2 days after my need, . Looks like a neat camera but I will have to buy a $100 adapter to mount my lens that I currently have. I will miss the built in flash as well. Maybe I'll sell all my gear and buy one camera and 2 lens, be a hell of a lot lighter than what I have now.

Thank you Bill! I got more perfect opposing pass shots but the smoke was just too much, I didn't even bother to edit those. Two things I personally am not in favor of at those shows are the amount of smoke they use, and the loud music they play. I would rather listen to the sound of the jet engines. What can sound more sexy than fighter jet engines?
The Canon R7 sounds like a terrific camera for airshows and birding! I haven't read the reviews so I don't know the performance of the view finder. The higher end bodies have no blackout or lag, it's like watching video when I shoot. The only Canon gear I have now is the Canon 24-105mm F4 coffee mug the wife bought me for Christmas.
