Something interesting is happening. My youngest, who just got her Ed.D, and her husband have left public education in Texas. She was a director at a large school district and he was a principal at a high performing high school. She is now working for a nationwide company that provides on-line classes. In addition to managing the southwest part of the US, she is developing new programs for advance placement and college equivalent courses for kids in districts or schools that don't have them, or for the kids to enroll in them after school because they can't fit them into their normal schedule. The expectation is for these kids to graduate high school with as much as 24-30 college hours.
Her husband left public schools to work for a national company that mentors and councils school districts to improve their academic processes. Both are much happier, but they are sad about the state of public education. My son-in-law was in the infamous Round Rock school district that has been in the news because of their dysfunctional superintendent and school board. These two have always considered the kids the reason they were in education, but they are much happier people since leaving. Too much stress.
I guess I am writing this to reveal the public education system is in deep peril now, with teachers, students and administrators becoming frustrated. Also, the pandemic isolation is the cause many students are having psychological problems parents and teachers are dealing with. Sad state of affairs. This is hitting close to home....Show more →
Ray, the state of education in the "Swamp" metro is deplorable!!!!! Virginia elected a new Governor on his promise to get education back on track! I see school kids in my neighborhood running the streets when they should be in school! What the heck is going on? Well that was a rhetorical question to which I have an answer that people won't like.
I wish success to your daughter and her husband. The USofA is sliding down the World educational scale rapidly!
Dan
Dan, schools have reported that many students have not returned to school post pandemic. We asked our daughter and her husband about their schools and they agreed many did not return. The son-in-law said they had over 100 kids who did not return and they don't know where they went. He has about 2300 students in his high school.
Heading to the Naval Academy in an hour to try my luck with the Blues' rehearsal today. Weather is not looking good after the rain but it may be a good chance for vapes!
Went to see the Blue Angels again at the Naval Academy in Annapolis this afternoon. It was very cloudy, the smoke the jets made was lingering on for a long time, the "dehaze" slider in Lightroom could do only so much without giving the pictures the weird looks.
Anyway, it was good to see the Academy open up to the general public again.

Not that bad Douglas. This was San Antonio/Randolf AFB...no wind and a lot of smoke...

These are great Douglas!
As you say, the conditions weren’t the best but no excuses needed for these!
Love your Fat Albert shots too - I need much more practice for good prop disks.

Regardless of the conditions Douglas, if they can fly, photograph them!
Being on the water Annapolis has that inflow of haze off the water. But as I said, if the aircraft can fly, photograph them.
Great work!

Call me crazy, I have been working on a "project". For the opposing passes, I have no clue which jet to focus on so it will end up to be the one in the front at the moment of passing each other. So I am analyzing my recent opposing pass shots (I got every one of them, credit to the fast frame rate of the camera), and marking down which jet from which direction will be in the front at crossing. I will bring that little chart with me when I go to the Jones Beach show this weekend.
