Hi all. Happy New Year! I don't think there is anymore to be said about 2020 and 2021 that hasn't been said already. Let's pray 2022 is a bright one.
And thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has offered to pitch in for Emily. What a great group. I've also fielded similar PMs.
Let's see what happens over the next week. She's back in Alaska for Christmas break, but I will email her tomorrow. I am hoping the school will pitch in at least some of the cost. Budgets are tight, they are a small D3 state school and I know enrollment is down, so I doubt they can pay for the whole thing. My daughter's boyfriend is on the men's hockey team, and he told me they haven't even provided sticks this year (usually each player can expect one or two free sticks).

We here in central Western Maryland are in the same "boat". Warm ocean and Potomac River, cold weather has to be in place for snow and we do get some blasters here. NE' sters or up from the south.....
This young lady could use some help. I would be willing to offer some to replace her lens.
Dan
Baltimore has more weather extremes than I realized. I've walked out of my hotel in White Marsh to find over 12 inches of snow and temps around 3F. I've also spent a couple of days in the field in June one year that were probably the hottest I've felt in a long time. And I've worked in southern Georgia.
Temps even here around 50F this weekend, will be a bit colder come Monday ("feels like" in the teens), but then warming up again by mid-week. Crazy.

I am west of Baltimore Mark but know its weather very well since the 60's. College, military....life......
It is 67F now but calling for 2-4" of snow by tomorrow morning. Mostly DC and South.
If it wasn't for me being a caregiver, let it snow! I have a very long driveway and I must be able to get out.

Currently 33°, the "feels like" has been around 16° with a steady 20 mph wind gusting to 29 mph. Wind chill is expected to get as low as 7°. It was 79° this afternoon when I washed 2 cars followed by winterizing the water faucet bibs. It's a 3 dog night here in Central Texas and I only have 2 dogs!
Just a normal Central Texas January day weather wise.

Dan,
I may head out to photograph the Christmas wreaths in snow at the Arlington National Cemetery tomorrow afternoon after the snow stops. Hopefully the light will cooperate.
Thanks Dan! I think I did a service to actual "photography" at this event. Many of teh guests were college and a year or two out of college age and, of course, cell phone "photography" abounded. The number of times I heard, "you don't need a camera anymore, these iPhones are so great!" The R5 images are being shared all over the country as we speak and the reactions seem to indicate a realization that maybe an iPhone isn't quite the imaging tool these kids thought it was................

In a way that iPhone could be good, if it the camera was used to it fullest potential, on the newer models and if the owners did something with the photo's made besides putting them in the cloud and leaving them on their phones
Recently I saw a photo album made from photo's made by mobile phone still a lot of candid shots but the quality was very good.
But it can't beat the digital photography we do, and probably never will. But sometimes it very handy.
Reminds me that I have to start reading the manual of that 5DMk4 that i got a while ago.

I think of my phone as a visual note taking device. I use it like I use my old Canon G10; I use it when I can't or don’t want to carry a camera. When I see something interesting, I snap it and then I may come back later with a camera.

I was told the best camera is the one you have with you. If you only have a phone camera, it's the best camera. I think you are right Jan-Arie, digital photography can't be beat.
Who else has been told "I am going to stand next to you to get photos because you have a professional camera".
Obviously the iPhone is a great memory catcher, but even with the latest and greatest, shooting the highest resolution, the files come unglued when you try to do any Photoshopping with them. The growth of social media and the iPhone have certainly played a big part in the dumbing down of our craft.

Key word here is "kids"............if it takes an image it is "da bomb"!!!!!
Missed a huge snow storm here...Nothing here but 5-10 inches south. Thank heavens!! Suzanne has 1st post op-discharge exam in 2 months!
Still looking good "well dressed man"!
RD
Thanks Dan! You guys have a good post op check up and speedy healing from here on out. Wishing you both a happy and very healthy 2022!
We are staying away from the kids for five days (an impossible task for me!!) because the weekends event was clearly what some would tag as a "Super Spreader", but I can't tell you how many times it dawned on me that everyone was just behaving normally and having a wonderful time. As Malcom Forbes once quipped......."While alive.........Live!"
The images have spread around the world over the past 48 hours, I can't wait for more wedding business to start rolling in........................."NOT!!" Gotta say, amidst all the stress and chaos I really did enjoy shooting it because it was such a beautiful event, but I have zero interest in doing another one.
The event was flawlessly planned and executed, and how about those 10 bride's maids and groomsmen?! The horses were not spared on any facet of this wedding weekend and it showed.
Apparently it's "a thing" now to have a live artist paint the scene while it's happening. The little lady in the right hand corner painted for 8 hours..............
