Ohhh jeez that is sad, to bad they have to use own equipment.
And 315$ discount from new isn't that much but still hopefully midwest can help you.
But I think the repair bill is probably higher.
Let us know how that develops..

Thanks J-A. Yes, I was a bit disappointed the discount wasn't more. No reply from Midwest yet.
BTW, thanks for the encouraging words the other day. We've actually been very rainy as well. No snow. Living close to the ocean it needs to be pretty cold to get snow, and we haven't had that yet. We do average about 23 cm of snow in December, but not this year.
Drive inland 30 or 40 miles, or head north, and there is usually a lot more snow. But even there it has been warm and wet so far. Finally supposed to get cold next week.
We here in central Western Maryland are in the same "boat". Warm ocean and Potomac River, cold weather has to be in place for snow and we do get some blasters here. NE' sters or up from the south.....
This young lady could use some help. I would be willing to offer some to replace her lens.

Good Afternoon Everyone! I am coming to you from the belly of the beast, Chicago Illinois. Here for 48 hours to shoot a very high end wedding, of all things, and then get back to my beloved Lone Star as quickly as possible. You know how I feel about shooting weddings, but this is a rare one, the flowers have all been flown in from New Zealand if that gives you a clue. I'm about to don my Tux and go to work.
Mark, let me know if I can help at all with Canon on the 70-200, or if need be chip in for the new one. Tell that little lady not to waste her tears on a lens, we can get this fixed one way or another. I think that your analysis is spot on, that much damage will bite her down the line if they agree to repair it. A 70-200 will last a lifetime and my guess is that one will not, so new is the right way to go.
Happiest of New Year's to you all, let's wave goodbye to '21 and make 2022 what it should be! God Bless you all!

Add me to the “help out” list for Emily. Thank God indeed that it was the lens that took the impact and not her eye. Let us know how you would like us to get the $ to her/you. Be well, Sir. Thinking good thoughts for you and the rest of us whose equanimity has been tested unrelentingly it seems.
Rob, a year long nightmare!!!!! I pray we are taking the 1st step upward this year..today! Your analogy to the past year(s) is dead on!!!

Quite a celebration last night! Winter is rolling into Illinois and with a little luck, we are jetting home this afternoon. Happiest of New Years!
Just beginning to work through the images from this event . The cathedral acoustics were such that one could hear a pin drop, so I set the R5 on electronic shutter and it didn’t make a sound. ISO’s ranged from 800 to 12,800 and the camera performed flawlessly. Another application where Eye AF would really shine, I did mostly manual focus because I wanted to closely control my focal point. One just has to marvel at the tools we have at our fingertips these days.

Yeah, hoping things will start to get better. Disappointing that we just see things get better and then swings the other way again. Fingers crossed.
Thanks Guys! My better 95% sure looked wonderful this weekend, not unlike every other weekend for the last 57 years. We just got back to Dallas by the skin of our teeth. The temps were plummeting in Illinois and the frozen precipitation was beginning as we taxied out after they deiced us. The winds were howling from the surface all the way up to FL520, anywhere from 45 knots to 150 knots. When we boarded the temps in DFW were around 71 degrees, as we landed 2 hours later they were headed south through 30 degrees with no end in sight. I'd rather it be 71, but I'm so glad to be back in Texas that I'll take what it offers without a complaint.
Currently 33°, the "feels like" has been around 16° with a steady 20 mph wind gusting to 29 mph. Wind chill is expected to get as low as 7°. It was 79° this afternoon when I washed 2 cars followed by winterizing the water faucet bibs. It's a 3 dog night here in Central Texas and I only have 2 dogs!
Just a normal Central Texas January day weather wise.
