Beautiful Nick! BW really makes this great! Maybe pop up the blacks a tad to give some separation from the whites mate. Fine detail and texture!

Hi Dan, Yes you’re right I could turn on more blacks. However….. What you see here is only a miserable jpeg travesty. The print was on a Baryta photo black paper and is a little richer. In the UK we have a fashion thing going on with B&W done as high contrast “soot and white wash”. It may suit gritty urban decay stuff, but I’m seeing that style used for landscapes and ….. portraiture! I go more for the full range of tones type look. Apparently we artists are supposed to have our own distinctive style….. OK, I’ll get my coat.

Thanks Ray. That location is Lilburn in Northumberland. If you put 55°30'41.9"N 1°57'33.3"W into Google Maps you will see my POV.

Love them Nick!

You have forced my mind to make a command decision. I declare COVID will be over February 1, 2022 so my wife and I can get back to traveling to see the big beautiful world! Kind of selfish I know, but I am tired of hiding in a cave and I am ready to bust out!

My attempt to capture those wonderful UK landscapes. This is in Ireland (do they really consider their land to be UK? I think it may be like Texas and the rest of the USA. ) on the road from Dublin to Glendalough as seen through a tour bus window. I enjoyed the countryside views the entire trip. I like how you see the different plots for miles.

Just beautiful, Ray. Reminds me of a return trip to Philly from Paris. AA flight had to stop in Dublin for fuel to make sure that we had enough for our alternate (which was Pittsburgh) given the prevailing Wx at KPHL. Hurricane Sandy was about to strike home. On our approach, I almost fell out of my seat, belt notwithstanding, at just how GREEN the countryside was, just as you've depicted above.

Of course, I admit that my amazement was enhanced by the utter beauty of the woman who appeared to be a refueling technician as she boarded the A/C to speak with the Captain. I'll spare us all the response to me from my wife - pretty doggone stunning as well - as she noticed my jaw on the floor (except to say that said jaw almost found a permanent home).

So Thank you, Ray, for recreating that memory for me. Merry Christmas and Best of New Years for you and your family.

Anthony

Dear MA2A family,

So very hard to believe another year is almost in the books! Very tired of the Covid and all but much to be thankful for! Friends here on MA2A, healthy family and good friends in so many corners of the world; from EU to India. Hoping all of you have a very Merry Christmas and we all do get to travel, be with and shoot with each other in the coming year.

This Christmas the family is going to Kenosha Wisconsin to be with family and friends. Should be a lot of fun with two new youngsters, Great Nieces that are 14 to 18 months old. Going to be delivering these new Toddler Push carts that just came out of the wood shop. The oak carts are for the Nieces, made from wood their great Grandpa harvested oh so many years ago. The Maple/Walnut creation goes to a special friend and his new daughter.

So best wishes to you for a Blessed Merry Christmas and a Happy New year from the Nehmers.

Dan

p.648 #18 · Mustang Air to Air: The Sequel

Hi everyone,

I was using a Canon 1DXII and EF 500/F4 II a few years ago at air shows but was never satisfied with the AF tracking performance and resolution.

Now I would love to get feedback from others on the current options, which I would think are Canon R5, Sony A1 and Nikon Z9. I think the resolution of the otherwise excellent R3 is too low for my own needs and I would doubt that anyone has shot a Z9 at an air show yet, since they are only just beginning to be delivered.

That leaves the R5 and A1. In my mind, the Sony 200-600 lens is a good reason to go with the A1. The R5 is less expensive, but I don't think there is a comparable lens option, perhaps the 100-500?

Are there any thoughts on which is the better high resolution camera at air shows - the R5 or A1 and which lens choices would you recommend?

Thanks,
Steve.

Happy to help Ray. The cheque from your travel agent arrived today!

In another life many moons ago, I was working for H M Queen & Sons stationed at Ballykelly in Northern Ireland. That’s the UK bit of the island of Ireland. I was ground handling for an AAC detachment operating a bunch of Bell 47-G2s. Flying over that area is breathtaking – forty shades of green is not even close to it. Highlight was going over the Giants Causeway – just fantastic! BTW it’s a UNESCO world heritage site.
