Looks like the Canon R3 is getting closer to it's debut and release, pricing estimates are around $6K, if I had to throw a dart at the board I would say $5500. That's a lot, but it appears to be a lot of camera.

What's a guy to do? I guess I will get to see this soap opera play out since sports are slowing down and won't begin until August.

FJ's are made of "unobtanium" Rob. We bought Hunter one for his 16th birthday. He is 22 and Toyota just offered him more than we paid for it! He loves his FJ, but I think he's getting one of the new Ford Bronco models.
Yeah, tell me about it. I searched for a LONG time to find this one. It's not exactly what I wanted but it's a 2012 with low mileage and no rust. It has the TRD exhaust system, 16" rims and upgraded shocks. It lacks the gauge package with compass, outside temp and inclinometer but I can add that later. Probably will put steel bumpers on it eventually.
That's a great find Rob! Hunter is 22 so I guess his is about a 2016 year model. He loves it and would get another one, if they made them. Toyota seems to have a strategy that causes them to drop their most popular models. I'm just going to baby my Landcruiser and drive it until the wheels fall off. They can't get me a 2021 in any color that I would remotely accept, so I guess they saved me $100K.
Actually, the FJ is still in production and they're sold in Africa and the Middle East. I've seen some pictures of new, out of the box FJ's from the UAE. There's persistent rumors that they might be re-introduced here, but who knows? Toyota isn't saying .
Oh, and I'm keeping my 4Runner and babying that as well. They don't make the 4Runner with the 4.7L V8 and full time 4x4 so it has to last . Nan calls it our "forever car".
Nan really likes the FJ too, though. When I found it she was kind of "well, I suppose..." but once she drove it she loved it.
Several of my assignments last week took me into the belly of the beast.....Illinois. You talk about a culture shock, it was like walking back in time to the most terrifying pandemic time period. I saw countless people riding bikes wearing a mask, walking in the park wearing masks and surgical gloves, driving in their cars by themselves in masks and gloves, and the number of boarded up businesses was staggering. Literally the towns looked like Beirut after the siege. The owner of one nice dinner spot that has managed to "survive", told me they re-opened, but no one wants to go back to work so they are going to have to dial back and close three days a week. He says he could be back to better than pre covid sales, but no one wants to return to work, they're all making more staying home with all the federal and state benefits they are getting. The obvious problem is, he can't pay his bills on that short of a work week. I expected a difference in environment, coming from Texas, but I was not prepared for the contrast that I witnessed. Dropping in via Gulfstream made the contrast even more striking. Seeing The Red River slip beneath the wing is always comforting, but that sight is exponentially more so these days.
They are still making the Landcruiser as well, just not for USS consumption. Apparently US consumers bought the entire production of American Landcruiser every year, the number was 5,000 I believe. Toyota decided that number of units wasn't significant enough to warrant a US sales effort so they pulled the plug. I understand that regions like the UAE buy them like they are Yugos, Africa is similar so that is where they are concentrating their efforts.
Went to see the BA rehearsal at the Naval Academy this afternoon, just horrible light, and operator errors with relatively new toys. . The real show is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon but thunderstorm is in the forecast... In normal years the campus is open to the general public to see the BA show but not this year. I found a place outside the campus with decent view, but very far away from the show center. Anyway, I was happy to see them in the Super Hornets for the first time, didn't feel they were much louder than the legacy hornets as some people say, maybe I am losing my hearing.
I will see the BA again this Sunday in Latrobe, Pa.
I’ve been testing the new (to me) versions of DXO software. I was a long time user of DXO but became frustrated with my inability to control it’s shortcomings in my application. Specifically, I found that the excellent lens corrections where compromised by uncontrollable, over done edge acutance / hallos. The DXO PureRaw mini app / plugin looked promising but testing quickly showed me that it has the same old problems – at least in my hands. I was happy to see that as an existing user I could upgrade to the PhotoLab app for the same cost as PureRaw.
My testing shows that, with care, DXO PhotoLab may be the way forward. I take great care to only use the lens correction and noise reduction. I input and output images as DNG files. So I am effectively using it as a pre-processor, in the same way that PureRaw works. I still need to be very careful with the sharpening in Lightroom and the DeepPRIME noise reduction takes a very very long time to process, but overall results are good enough to keep me going with the trial period…. Webesee.

These are fantastic Douglas!
I especially like 1 and 2 but they are all great!
The light was truly horrible in the morning for the practice which was a great pity as I had the privilege of an invitation to shoot from the Capitol dome. Not sure I have anything worth posting after seeing these!
May I ask where you were shooting from? I live close to Tollly Point at the mouth of the Severn, about 3 miles due south of the Academy, so the BA fly right over us or turn close by. As a consequence I am usually reluctant to fight the traffic downtown.
We had been planning to take our boat out and anchor as close to Horn Point as we are allowed to, but a small sailboat is a less than ideal platform to shoot from and the chop and possible thunderstorms make that less than attractive today.
I may take Dan's suggestion and head for the south side of the Eastport bridge near the Mercedes dealer. Parking within walking distance should not be too hard.

Good recommendation Dan!
I believe the top level of the Noah Hillman parking garage can be a good spot too.

Thank you Patrick! Based on my observation of several BA shows at the Naval Academy, the "show center" is above the water between Ingram Field and Forrest Sherman Field on the academy campus, since the general public can't get in the campus this year, after looking at the google map many times, I chose the bridge on King George St., near the St John College campus. it has a decent view of the show center but can be a bit too far for some shots.
