I lost all of the Indian Hawthorns in my front yard. I'm going see if my lawn man will pull them out, and dispose of them, for me, and then I'll need pick up 10 new ones from the local nursery. They'll be a lot smaller, but that's OK by me.
Sorry to hear that Dave. I have a bunch of mature Pittosporum around the backyard, way to large to cover, they're toast. Funny, I planted new dwarf Pitts across the front and outside the master bedroom bay window a year ago, covered them up and they are perfect. They spent five days buried under snow and in sub freezing temps but it didn't wilt a leaf. It's going to be a good year for pool guys, landscapers and the nurseries. The experts are saying that our Live Oaks will come back strong, but I have yet to see so much as a bud. I planted a six foot Japanese Maple last year and it's on the north side of the house so I figured it was done for, but it's leafing out right on schedule.
Probably a good idea to get someone to pull all that out for you, that's not fun work. The darn Pyracantha are lethal, I always end up bleeding when I prune them. They're beautiful, the birds love them and they can be kept shaped fairly close to the brick wall so i don't know what else I'd put there...............
Looks like the winds are going to back off tomorrow to 10-15 so I'm going to be droning in Dallas and Arlington, same for Saturday. I can't launch the I2 without saying a prayer of thanks for my Buddy Mike Brewington,I pulled up the flight log in the DJI App the other day and was surprised to learn that I have flown that aircraft 231 hours since I bought it. May never have made that jump if it wasn't for Mike's encouragement, and mentorship post purchase. Thanks Mike!

I did happen upon something to lift my spirits this afternoon.................might as well spend it before it gets taxed.............
Oshkosh and EAA...................... Keep me in mind Jim, I might wander over for a day or two from Iowa. Should have "shots" by then and might have a few extra days of vaca too.
Now if there is just a little bit of magic left in that old 1D MkII..................
If Oshkosh was more convenient, I might stop in. It's funny, as much as I like planes (I was a pilot for 30 years), I'm not likely to travel very far for any air show. I'm not sure why, but they don't appeal as much to me now, as they did years ago. Reno was a blast, and I'm glad I got to go, but I mainly went there for a squadron reunion. I do wander over to DFW once in a while to take a few pictures, and I need to do that again, since it's been a while.
Extremely cropped, as my 300mm lens just wasn't enough for most of the event.
I hear Ya Dave, I do Alliance, because it's Ross's air show and I've done it for 25 years, but air shows in general don't do a whole lot for me unless I have an air to air or something going on. Let me know when you decide to head out to DFW, maybe we can grab a coke or something.
May be rethinking it, Toyota is not importing Landcruiser after the 2021 model, which is on the floor as we speak. I'm thinking very seriously about ordering one and hanging on to the one that I have for work. If I do that, the two seater , really 2.02 seater, wouldn't be a good move, that'd be $220,00 in cars in one year and, after all, they don't have wings!

For a couple of years now, I've made my show selections on the basis of "what can I see/do/shoot at this show that I haven't seen/done/shot many times before." And, as the years go by, the number of opportunities to see/do /shoot something new, different and worth a long trip get fewer and fewer.
That's a very thoughtful approach. We all typically keep going back thinking that the sky might be different, some element might change, allowing us to capture something we've already shot, only better. As we get older and those 12 hour days schlepping gear and raising big lenses to the sky a jillion times, the graph lines of wanting "the shot" and the line representing exhaustion and pain begin to intersect at earlier points. The answer to the age old MATA question "Do you want the shot............or not?!", becomes a little less clear as the afternoon progresses................................ "Where do I get three Advil?" begins to be the question......................
Off to Drone two more projects! Winds 5-10, sky crystal clear! Once again, with the wisdom of Mike B, we navigated DJI's ever changing unlocking procedure. Were it not for Mike's patience and calming influence, I could have taken a ball bat to the whole thing late yesterday!
I went to the Reno Air Races for all 5 days. Most of our group had to leave on Sunday, but three of us weren't leaving until Monday morning. By Sunday, the three of us had had enough air show time, so we decided to spend the day hiking up at Lake Tahoe, instead (even though we already had our tickets for Sunday). It was a fun day, and I think we made the right decision.
I went out to California a couple of weeks ago and they were still closed for business, at least the restaurants were, more or less. You could eat outsides, but that was it. Still also could NOT go get ice from the ice maker machines in the hotel. I refuse to go downstairs and "tip" the person who gets me a small bucket of ice in the bar/restaurant area. What an inconvenience.
Here is a shot of the Global Express XRS that I photographed while I was out there. It had a very nice interior with a very unique, Bang and Olufsen speaker in the jet. Oh how I wanted to try it out, but never could get it to work with my bluetooth enabled iPhone.
