Chandler passed his written with a 90 yesterday, big day for him! He's smart, and street smart, but he has a thing with testing, so this was a big hurdle. Solo can't be very far off now, gut check for a Grandfather....................

Sheila baked Valentines cookies until midnight last night and she has a long list of Bible Study friends, widows, etc that she has made up gift boxes for, so my job is to navigate the roads today and take her to get all this stuff delivered. Freezing drizzle is reported around the metroplex and today is by far the best day for two or three so I'm warming up the Landcruiser and we'll see what it's like out there. Tonight all hell breaks loose supposedly and the 3 to 6" plus wintry mix starts, should be a few fun photo ops over the next few days if one can battle the single to minus digit wind chills.

Is Al Gore speaking in Texas this week?......................................

So, slightly over two years since my last post...

I've had to gently lay aside my photography for the last few years and focus on other things. Major changes to our company over that time, redefining our identity and core services and now better able to grow. Getting old and had to start putting effort into getting back in shape. Teenage kids need tons of extra time. And so on: I haven't been back to FM in those two years, and was actually brought back today by the to-do list... I'm cleaning house and need to sell some stuff.

But I've missed the hell out of all of you, I'll tell you (and a few of you especially, of course!). I'm not fool enough to try to read through all the posts I've missed, but I will try to check in more often! May all of you be healthy and happy: you're always in my prayers.

Spent the afternoon at the ranch "winterizing" livestock, which is tough because everything in that category is sold out. We did our best, the biggest challenge is keeping water sources available, we got very creative. Hoping we don't experience any power interruptions, that would be catastrophic. It's going to be 60 the following week, welcome to Texas!

FYI, Mike Collins, a good friend and long time writer/photographer for AOPA has been admitted to the ICU and placed on a respirator. As we all know, when it reaches that stage things are very tenuous. Please keep Mike and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

You and your family are indeed "multi-taskers" Jim!!!!!
We had ice here last night. That on top of snow that has been on the ground for weeks. Very cold also! Very beautiful for photography. The snow still is on the evergreens and holly trees.

Brian, the s composite cable is the final piece to the puzzle with the Elgato system, it's recording away at the moment. You can set the defaults for whatever format you would like the final file recorded in, H.264, MP4, etc. The file saves to your "Movies" folder. From what I can tell, the whole process should work seamlessly on a Windows platform too. I'll keep you posted as I get deeper into my tapes.

Have not heard back from "Lifeflix", it's looking like they are a little lacking in the customer service/tech help area.

Good Afternoon Dan,

Yes, and it it looks like Jennifer is adding another 50 acres on the west side of the ranch in the next week or so. No shortage of things to do. Let's see, retirement............? Aside from my photography business spooling back up again with a bunch of new clients, JR and I have partnered up with our G650 ER Buddy on two nice sized real estate deals and an oil play, and Jennifer and I are thinking about starting a business that has the potential to go very big. After a year of wondering what in the world was next, this all feels pretty damn good!

All of this bodes well for that grass strip in the country project, hoping a few of you can come and chill when that little hideaway becomes a reality.

Speaking of chill leaving dfw today in 3/4 mile vis and 19 degrees!

Sorry to hear about Mike. Is that presumably covid related?

Nobody better ever tell me all about “clean” energy again! We’re experiencing the green new deal right now, frozen wind turbines, ineffective solar sources. My pool is frozen solid and our house is nudging 45 degrees because “clean” energy sucks. If this keeps up, at that is the forecast, we’ll be lucking if all the pipes in our house aren’t doing an Old Faithful routine when things begin to thaw this weekend. Headed for 7 F tonite, only has two degrees to go, 17 tomorrow with freezing rain, followed by 3-5 inches of snow.

That's why we insulate the water mains and if it gets to cold we can switch the water off (not recommended by the way).
And those clowns want to get rid of natural gas and go all electric hey even the electric has to come from somewhere.
Hope that you get spared from Old Faithful routine.

We had minus 10 C (14F) this weekend with ice skating etc and now it's +10 C (50F) and for the weekend they say it's get's to +16 (61F) so go figure
So get your hat and mittens and keep warm..

Good Morning/Afternoon Jan Arie,

Yes, I'm afraid that they have California'd our Texas while we weren't looking. Natural Gas, clean burning Natural Gas, is our only saving grace at the moment and they are saying that they'll be turning that off, but so far they haven't shut ours down. 41 degrees in the house when we woke up this morning, the power is on now, probably for an hour or less, that's twice in 24 hours. Definitely have some pipes frozen.

I spent the afternoon at Jennifer's ranch yesterday helping her keep her livestock alive. 10 degrees F with a 25G35 NW wind, my heart goes out to the people who spend their lives range animals and crops to feed the world, what an unimaginable life of continuous challenges!

In the midst of the brutal weather, Chandler and his brother were figuring out how to ski on pieces of wood tywrapped to their boots, when that was relatively unsuccessful they decided to pull each other around a pasture with Chandler's RAM truck on various buckets, tubs and plastic sheets.

I knew what this smile meant the moment I saw it......................

Same here Jim. We have been spared with our vent free propane fireplace twice this last week; power lost due to ice on our neighbors 150 year old oak tree limbs, and then the main house heater died. Water lines froze even though we streamed the faucets. Just finished washing dishes the old Boy Scout way; boil water (snow) add soap and rinse & dry.

I took the tractor out yesterday to clear our drive and county road from ice and snow. 30 minutes later the wind blew another 2 feet on top of the road.

Ice loading moved the internet dish out of position. The bedroom heater is now broken. Both units are less than 6 years old. All those energy saving features are failing. I am happy we have an energy co-op for power and are off the Texas grid. They fixed our downed power line in 1.5 hours.

Life is good. My favorite girl and I are celebrating 48 years today and the grandkids are marooned here with us. What could be better.

Oh, I told Canon to hold off on the loaner, deliveries are not happening.

After 6 days of ice and snow and temperatures below 28 degrees, this icicle is almost 4 feet long.
